The Mary Brennan Inn Soup Kitchen in Hempstead is the only place in Nassau County that allows people to shower, no questions asked. They are in need of towels. If they don’t have towels for the people to use they have to use paper towels. Participants will use fabric markers and stencils to decorate towels that will be donated to the Mary Brennan Inn. The cost of the program is $350 for 25 participants. Each participant will decorate their own towel. Community service certificate given to each participant. It's never too early to start preparing! Learn effective ways to prepare and study for school exams and standardized tests. Students will make their own flashcards with index cards. This workshop also offers strategies to anticipate certain types of questions that are commonly asked. This program can be adapted for 4th to 6th graders as well.

This interactive event does something thrilling and unique: children and adults learn about a woman important in American History, Harriet Tubman, about the importance of the underground railroad, and about the cause of slavery. Based on the philosophy Aesthetic Realism founded by poet and critic Eli Siegel, children learn about themselves and the respect for the world and people they most hope for! There are Power Point slides of the routes of the Underground Railroad, music, and a re-enactment of an escape from enslavement which was led by Harriet Tubman all the way to Canada.

Corn-Tastic - We learn about the many uses of Corn in today’s world. We learn the science and benefits, to the world, Corn brings and how we can all be the future, through education, of discovery. Farmer Tom Walsh, during his program, will distribute agriculture and farm related STICKERS to the fair goers. BEE ON THE FARM: Farmer Tom Walsh’s program has an agricultural theme that begins with a fun and educational story and then song on the life of bees. During the show everyone will gain an appreciation for the importance of bees in agriculture production. Bee My Friend: Everyone will gain an appreciation for the importance of bees in agriculture production. Cooperation with and respect for others (Dignity for All Students Act) is available for Elementary grade levels with his original story, The wooly bully bee, is a story of a bee that is misunderstood and everyone helps to tell the tale! Performance Preparation: Activities can include curriculum requirement, cooperation with others, farming, vegetables, recycling, nutrition, safety, history and music.

Children come up to perform original songs with full orchestra sound as they learn to count by 10s, 5's, have a pizza party and divide by 8, brush the little paws of their doggie and add to 4. They will count by 3's dressed as chefs from all over the world. Concert will feature Danny Kaye's "INCHWORM" and "LADYBUG PICNIC" from Sesame Street. Costumes and props and a variety of musical styles make the concert a great way to reinforce the connection of math and music.

This session is offered as part of the popular in-house library program known as the Parent/Toddler or Parent/Child Workshop. Dara Linthwaite will be happy to talk with parents and caregivers about ways to use music with their young children and answer any questions they may have. Dara has worked as a kindergarten teacher in a private school for gifted children, as well as a music teacher in a preschool for children with developmental disabilities. If you'd like, let Dara and her guitar conduct circle time for the last 15-20 minutes of the program and watch the little ones dance and sing with glee!

A Taste of Japan: Patrons learn how to make Sushi Rice at home & then how to prepare & make their own Sushi rolls. They learn what kind of rice is used to prepare Sushi and what ingredients work best in making their own Sushi rolls. A Japanese dessert dumpling, Dango, is also prepared. All Patrons will taste the completed Sushi rolls and Dango during the presentation. The patrons DO NOT make their rolls but view all the steps in the preparation and creation of the rolls.

Gary Feldman, consumer food educator, will share his knowledge of animal welfare certifications and help you to SHOP as HUMANELY and sustainably as possible. Find out how to navigate through today’s confusing food labels for dairy, eggs, meat, poultry, etc. Learn the meaning of FREE RANGE, PASTURE RAISED, GRASS FED, ORGANIC and much more. Learn what symbols and terms to look for, and how to decipher true verifications from false claims. Gary will show you the correlation between FACTORY FARMS and today’s superbug epidemic, and also give solid tips for avoiding it. Discover why and how agricultural laws are created for corporations.
