Remembering Pete Seeger History,
Life Skills- Other,
Music
I had the fortune of performing 50+ concerts and festivals alongside Pete Seeger between 2003 and his passing in 2014, learning many of his songs and the stories behind them – and not only songs he wrote but those of Woody Guthrie and many others. He was a mentor not only of music but of how to be a decent human being. After Pete passed in 2014, I participated in many tribute concerts with the likes of Peter Yarrow, Tom Chapin, David Amram, Guy Davis and others. Now, I have put together a “program” called “Remembering Pete Seeger.” I am presenting it in concert halls, theaters, arts centers, libraries, festivals, summer concert series, and colleges all over the world. “Spook Handy honors the spirit of Pete Seeger, so excellently, by sharing the music with everyone on stage and in the audience in the same way that Pete did. He makes music the star. That’s why Pete loved to play with him so often and why all of us who are still here also do.” … David Amram – recipient of the second annual Pete and Toshi Seeger Power of Song Award.

Tales from the Road History,
Life Skills- Other,
Music
Spook’s been to every American state except Hawaii, Michigan. And he’s met all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds – learning the history, values and culture of different groups of people. In this heartwarming, inspiring and sometime humorous concert Spook will share stories and songs he learned directly from Pete Seeger or indirectly from Woody Guthrie or his own songs about the places he’s been, people he’s met and the predicaments he’s found himself in. An excellent program for Libraries, Arts Centers, Churches, Schools and other meeting places. Visit www.spookhandy.com for more info on the artist and other programs and workshops.

Pete Seeger - the American Soul History,
Life Skills- Other
America is much more than just a geographical location or even a collection of people. It is an ideal. Pete Seeger embodied this ideal. “America” is a challenge to this nation’s citizenry and to the world to be the best we each and collectively can be. It is a belief that to the extent people can live in harmony with their neighbors and the environment as industrious contributors to society they should be allowed to live freely, to explore and express their unique individuality. In other words, if we are all good citizens we should be allowed to pursue our dreams – to walk the paths of our calling and live the life styles that best suit us. Is this not what is meant by the “American dream” and “the pursuit of happiness?” Pete was a personal friend. I had the fortune of performing alongside him over 50 times at festivals and concerts. I would love to share stories and even a couple of songs about this man who so incredibly embodied the ideals espoused by the founders of this great nation.
