Tod Browning - The Crown Price of the Cinematic Macabre History,
Media- Film,
Performing Arts- Storytelling
Tod Browning was once one of Hollywood's golden directors during the silent era of motion pictures. He helped make a star of Lon Chaney Sr. by collaborating on a series of film noir styled crime films for MGM. He was recruited by Universal pictures for Dracula (1931). But his career plummeted after he directed the notorious Freaks (1932) which went on to horrify and upset movie patrons for decades. But what was the story behind this man and his increasingly disturbing motion pictures? Join me for a psychological introspection on one of the masters of the macabre, Tod Browning.

Ed Wood - Hollywood's Worst Filmmaker, or Misunderstood Genius? Media- Film,
Performing Arts- Other,
Visual Arts- Other
Ed Wood the man who directed the infamous and unintentionally funny Plan 9 From Outer Space has often been accused of being Hollywood's worst filmmaker but is this criticism fair? In this program, we explore the life of Ed Wood, from his days as a marine Corporal during WWII were he served in the battle of Tarawa to his career as a screenwriter in Hollywood, penning such classics as The Bride & The Beast (1958) and later working his way to directing cult classics as Bride of the Monster (1955), Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959) and Night of the Ghouls (1959). Woods somewhat autobiographical Glenn or Glenda (1953) explored his passion for dressing like a woman. Writer Jim Morton said of Ed Wood; "Eccentric and individualistic, Edward D. Wood, Jr. was a man born to film. Lesser men, if forced to make movies under the conditions Wood faced, would have thrown up their hands in defeat." As a bonus, we will also explore other filmmakers whose works are so bad it proves that Ed Wood was actually quite ahead of his time.
$101- $200
CHARLEY CHASE - From Silent Clown to Creative Cohort History,
Media- Film,

Charley Chase was a popular character actor throughout the teens and 20's, he got his start in cinema when he told legendary producer Hal Roach that he could "play anything" and then proceeded to do an imitation of a lighthouse. But what makes Charley Chase stand out from the other silent comedians of the time was that he ended up writing and directing for some of the biggest acts in the business including the Three Stooges and Andy Clyde. He also acted along side such astonishing acts as Laurell & Hardy, Buster Keaton and "Fatty" Arbuckle. Find out all about this underestimated comic genius in this great 60 minute program. HAMMER HORROR - British horror films of the 1960's History,
Media- Film,

Hammer films of England produced some of the most exciting and colorful horror films ever made. They also created a star factory that included the likes of Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings) and Peter Cushing (Star Wars). Known for their lavish production values, splashes of gruesome viscera, and strong sense of sensuality, they redefined the genre in a way that still leaves it's mark on the current horror and sci-fi cinema of today. Join me for this introspective journey through the career of Hammer film studios, all the way through their humble poverty row productions of the 1940's through their shot to international recognition as the masters of horror and science fiction in the 1960's. Comes complete with a vintage memorabilia presentation plus a 16mm showing of a digest version of The Curse of Frankenstein (1957). A must when booking for the Halloween season of September/October.
