Harvey Heilbrun's energetic and imaginative performances engage young and old in the art of the oral tradition. Join him as he spins folktales, sings, plays guitar, and breathes life into the imagination of the listeners. Using his 33 years of teaching experience in the middle and elementary school, including 25 years of singing and storytelling, Harvey presents everything from traditional Appalachian tales to classic legends, from historical songs to old-fashioned ghost stories. Younger grades will appreciate picture book based tales and story-songs. He will work with you to design the ideal program for your group. Multi-day follow-up workshops on storytelling with smaller groups are available. He is an ideal supplement to Balanced Literacy, Character Education, Environmental programs and Library reading programs for school age children. His program supports the Common Core standards. Harvey gathers his stories from a number of different sources, mainly folktale collections, picture books and tales that he’s heard from other tellers. He gets pleasure in telling tales that usually have a twist. He performs a number of curriculum/thematic related songs that he has written and songs of other famous songwriters.
