A novelist and performing artist since 1991, Christine Kallevig folds giant-sized paper as she tells stories. Each fold represents an action, setting, or character, so by the time the story is over, a surprise origami figure is magically created. Included are audience fold-along activities, original material from her books, and origami adaptations of traditional folk tales. Christine uses music, humor, and large origami puppetry to dramatize the stories, and always finishes with an easy fold-along tale so that everyone has an origami souvenir to take home.

The show, which uses magic and humor to promote reading, highlights the New York state summer reading program theme, “Make a Splash – Read!” As jolly, seafaring Captain HurriCain, Ron Cain takes children on an imaginary trip to the bottom of the ocean. Together, they explore a Magical Underwater Library. Young readers have fun with water-themed illusions that highlight different types of books they can borrow. During the adventure, they help Ron perform tricks involving pirates, mermaids, and a sea monster or two. Since 1998, Ron has created magic shows based on the annual summer reading program theme. Each program encourages children to visit their library and appreciate the magic of books. A Syracuse University graduate and former teacher, Ron has more than 16 years of experience performing at schools, libraries, companies and festivals throughout New York. He also has appeared on television’s Pappyland and Saturday Showboat. His magic shows with educational messages include Tune In To Magical Idol, Uncle Sam's Old Time Magic Show, Magic of America, Wandering Wizard Show, Magical Museum Show, Tex the Cowboy Magician's Wild West Show, and the Case of the Missing Bunny.
