All the stories in this program are old folktales, from six countries around the world. This program takes its theme from the 2017 summer reading theme. Stories in the program: 999 Steps, from Japan; the First House, from India; Lazy Jack, from England; The First Strawberries, from the Cherokee; the Butterfly Coat, from China; and Hummingbird's Advice, from India. If you'd like a longer/shorter program, that can be arranged!

The High Peaks Juggling Show is a highly interactive comedy juggling performance with emphasis on learning from our mistakes, team-work & cooperation, confidence building, and learning as play. It utilizes traditions from numerous cultures that highlight juggling as a historical heritage. And because the show is participatory, audience members are left with a feeling that juggling is something they can do too.

Beginning: How to draw great characters, brainstorm, and create a ‘voice’ for characters. Middle: Kids interactively establish plot, setting, and conflict. End: Children edit and re-write the story and create a resolution! Assemblies: Katie teaches story construction, sequencing, how ideas transform from thought to published book. Kids learn to do drawings of emotions, Katie shares her mistakes, and teaches skills students can use when creating their own stories. K-3: Highly interactive: children help write a story; volunteers make different emotional expressions. Katie draws their faces on the characters and together they create a new narrative with emphasis on beginning, middle and end. 4-6: Workshops: brainstorming, plotting, descriptive narrative, and character development. Illustration: teaches kids HOW TO SEE so they’re able to illustrate any story they write. Dear Katie, I'm usually 'ho-hum' when it comes to author visits. You were one to change my mind! The stories bring to life a time long past complete with its own social commentary and stating of questions that are still being asked today. Rachel and Rebecca’s literary storytelling will enchant and entertain.

Story Laurie has a knack for making us laugh while also helping us to think deeply about the kind of world we want to live in and how, by working (& singing!) together, we can all achieve that world. Folk tales, myths, songs both new and old, and real life stories of people doing wondrous things -- all come to life in the hands of this world-wise yet home-grown children’s performer. If ever there were a performer for our times, Story Laurie is IT!

Rita Parisi, in her one-woman original play, will pay tribute to an often misunderstood woman; a woman who was also a mother, an accomplished dancer, an exhibited artist and a published writer in her own right. *appropriate for mature teens and older. *includes some stage lighting
