The drawing game Pictionary is mashed-up with Relay racing. Teams play against each other drawing a "round of 12 cards". The typical "all play" category found in original Pictionary is replaced with current popular books, and their characters; the other normal categories of objects, places, celebrities, verbs are also played. The players hand-off the marker as a baton- and the first team to guess all their cards each round wins. Call for more info- as this one is a little involved rule-wise. losing team each round will have to perform some sort of physical exercise (jumping jacks, etc.). Team that wins the most "rounds" of play wins.

This course is taught with a lecture and lab component. During lecture, students learn about the organization of the nervous system, synaptic transmission, neurotransmitters, and ionic basis for action potentials. These are basic foundations for the science of neurophysiology, which we will be practicing using hands on methods. The lab component involves recording action potentials in real time from an insect, and analysis of the recording to interpret results. Robotic control of an insect using neural circuits and a cell phone usually interest the most hard core bored students! The goal of the class is to interest students in neural circuits and neuroscience! This program is suitable for the 2017 summer reading program.

2016 marks the 75th anniversary of the spectacular 1941 baseball season when Ted Williams became the last player to bat over .400. A few months later America entered World War II. Williams became a flight instructor in Pensacola, FL., at the same flight school future President George Bush trained to become a fighter pilot. Later Williams baseball career was interrupted a second time as he was called on to serve as a fighter pilot in the Korean War with future astronaut John Glenn. Join us on the 75th anniversary of Williams’ record-setting season as we look at his military service between two wars. Presenter: Rick Feingold presented this lecture as part of the Cooperstown Symposium on Baseball and American Culture at the National Baseball Hall of Fame. He has written for the Boston Herald and Christian Science Monitor on the topic of baseball in the Caribbean.
