| Haynes, Jeff | The Rhythm & Your Words |
Literature- Poetry, Music, Performing Arts- Literary Artists |
Sometimes the key to self expression is to listen. Percussionist Jeff Haynes creates an array of percussive landscapes, to help writers heighten their awareness and sensitivity to the rhythm and the range of their inner voice. Over the course of this two day writing and performance workshop, participants will be engaged in various exercises and discussions to help them connect Jeff’s percussive textures with their inner voice. They will see first hand how percussion can bring out different inflections in their writing and delivery.
The workshop invites participants to bring their poems to perform with Jeff and/or come with an open mind, ready to write and perform something inspired by the sessions. As participants listen to Jeff play, they will become in-tune with the “voice” of the rhythm. Participants will be challenged to allow their writing and performances to reflect on: how the rhythm makes them feel; where does it take them; and what their inner voice will say in return. Each participant will perform with Jeff.
