Bubbling Potions Science
Manipulate matter in all of its three states! Melt metal in boiling water and freeze water with just a breath of dry ice! These are but a few of the exciting experiments students will complete in this class. But the fun doesn't have to stop when the class ends! Children can continue experiments at home with their own Thermocolor cup(TM) - testing the temperatures of any liquid matter they choose!
$201- $350
Up, Up & Away Science
under construction
$201- $350
~Mad Science Camps~ Nature- Animals,
Nature- Environment,
Science
Mad Science Camps run for 5 days, 3 hours per day. Most topics are for children entering grades 1 - 5. Topics include Robotics, NASA, Nature, Secret Agent Lab, Crazy Chemistry, Mad Machines & Crazy Contraptions and Archeology. Check the Mad Science website for more detailed descriptions:www.midhudson.madscience.org
$101- $200
Digging for Dinosaurs Science
GREAT TOPIC to COORDINATE WITH THE 2013 SUMMER READING TOPIC -- DIG INTO READING! We'll take you on a journey to a time when giant retiles ruled the earth. Children will examine real fossil casts and explore the differences in the teeth of herbivorous and carnivorous dinosaurs. Students will participate in a mini-dinosaur excavation and make a cast of a dinosaur tooth to take home.
$201- $350
Current Events (Electricity) Science
In this electrifying class, students will be taken on a tour of the electron freeway. Problem-solving abilities, scientific know-how and good retention skills are explored when students tackle the problem of creating a circuit which will light a bulb. It's not as easy as it sounds! After mastering simple circuits, the class will turn to a hands-on exploration of more complex series circuits.
$201- $350
Rocket Demo Science
The students will be introduced to the basic parts that make up every rocket. The discussion lays the foundation for the 3 parts of flight and the fundamental principles of rocket flight. To both illustrate and entertain, the children will be involved in a fun balloon-rocket race. With the science behind rockets covered, students will witness the preparation of a rocket for flight and will learn basic pre-launch safety procedures. They will then be brought outside to witness the grand finale - the launch of a model rocket from a launch-pad!
$201- $350
Super Structures Science
Super Structures will give students insight into the world of architects and engineers! The students' first project will be to build card houses in which they will undoubtedly find all stable card houses have something in common - the triangle. Triangles and arches provide the greatest support in construction - facts that children will see for themselves when they experiment with these two shapes and use them to both strengthen and reinforce structures.
$201- $350
Harnessing Heat Science
Students will be introduced to the concepts of heat and heat transfer. They will be treated to six interactive demonstrations and four entertaining and educational hands-on activities. The class will learn and observe the basic properties of heat by play-acting the role of atoms, as well as, observing the effects and behavior of warm air and water. The children will witness a tea bag rocket-launch, a gravity defying candle-lighting and even take part in a sense-confusing temperature test.
$201- $350
Laser Light/Space Technology Science
This class introduces students to the world of lasers, light, color and important related scientific concepts. Once the fundamental scientific concepts have been presented in an entertaining descussion along with a brief demonstration, the class will then be introduced to the Laser. In a series of interactive demonstrations, the children will explore the laser's beam and it's unique properties. The students will learn how to make the beam visible and will have fun manipulating the beam's path by using reflection.
$201- $350
Under Pressure Science
Under Pressure teaches the basics of air pressure through demonstrations and activities of Bernoulli's Principle and Newton's Laws of Motion. Students will be challenged to stop and consider air, its effects on our surroundings and its significance to us and to life on Earth. The focus will then turn to air pressure beginning with a fun demonstration that illustrates the concept of unbalanced pressures.
$201- $350
