Antigone Music
Antigone by composer Marian Grudko “Antigone” is an electronic music composition created entirely using analog tape and analog sound generators, including a Steinway piano.  No computers were used in the process.  It is in a style loosely called organized sound, using some of the tape manipulating techniques originating in 1948, in the electronic music known as “musique concrète.” The composition is an emotionally charged, electronic representation of Sophocles’ play “Antigone,” part of the Oedipus trilogy. There is a brief, powerful part towards the end of the music which some fans refer to as the “Jimi Hendrix” section, to the delight of composer Marian Grudko who confirms that it is indeed an “homage.” “Antigone” is performed through a state-of-the-art sound system, and is offered in two formats: 1) an audio performance only, or 2) audio plus visual, using a screen and computer program that creates a colorful visual representation of the sounds generated by the composition. This program is recommended for adults and older children. A short synopsis of Sophocles’ “Antigone” will be presented by the composer before the music performance.
