Gustav Klimt, the Viennese Art Nouveau painter, created dazzling, gold leaf paintings that are well loved today. The Tree of Life painting is one of the most popular. In this class, participants will draw, paint and collage their own Tree of Life images to honor the people and things they hold dear. Symbolic shapes will be developed (when age-appropriate) to emulate Klimt's use of decorative symbolism to add meaning and creative interest. Step-by-step guidance will be provided for younger ages and special needs. Gold paint and special touches create beautiful results! Exciting visuals will inspire all.

Weaving is once again a force in fashion and woven clothing and accessories are in stores everywhere! Learn how easy it is to weave your own, one-of-a-kind, fringed necklace with beaded accents that will dazzle all your friends! Get close and comfortable with a seasonal harvest of fresh fruits and vegetables as you learn how to capture their beauty in still life drawing and/or painting. Inspiring examples of artwork featuring fruits and vegetables will be shown and participants will learn nutritional benefits of these delicious foods. Terrific for Healthy Kids Day, Harvest Day, Thanksgiving or any day!

PEN AND INK LANDSCAPE DRAWING Visual Arts- Drawing
Try your hand at a tradition of drawing that is detail oriented yet flowing all at the same time! Using fine drawing pens instead of messy ink, learn how to translate a landscape photo into your own black and white composition. Pick up easy drawing techniques to create interest and texture. Learn how to free up your hand and your style to create spontaneous, fresh and even daring images while listening to soothing music. No experience necessary; inspiring examples will be shown. Feel free to bring in a landscape photo of your own or select from instructor's collection.

PAINT LIKE THE FAUVES Visual Arts- Painting
Go wild with raging color and paint an acrylic landscape on canvas in the style of the Fauves. This group of 20th century French artists rebelled against the traditional manner of painting at the time and their work was banned. Their name,literally meaning wild beasts, was given to them due to their shocking use of vibrant, flat color. Get inspired by examples of paintings by Matisse, Derain, Vlaminck and other Fauves as you paint your own rebellious masterpiece from a selection of landscape images. No experience necessary.

Create a layered coral reef painting using the technique of frottage with watercolor and other media. Visuals and shell and coral specimens will inspire. Learn painting tricks and composition. The fragility and importance of our coral reefs will be underscored. You'll have lots of fun experimenting with materials in this creative workshop as you relax to soothing music. Class is taught by Lauren Singer, award-winning artist, art teacher and nature enthusiast.

Learn how to needle weave a fringed, miniature dried flower holder for the wall using raffia and other exciting natural threads on a simple, hand-held loom. Make your own personal statement by weaving in embellishments like beads, twigs and leather. Interesting examples will spark your creativity. No experience necessary-- all levels welcome!

Class will focus on how to rebuild our earth with an easy weaving project that re-uses, re-purposes and recycles commonly discarded materials, such as junk mail, plastic bags, packaging wraps and more!. Easy weaving and knotting techniques on a cardboard loom will be taught for all age levels and ability. Participants will weave an earth conscious motto into their weaving. Finished pieces are ready for hanging on wall. Inspiring examples of weaving from diverse cultures will be shown and environmentally conscious practices will be discussed. Class is taught by award-winning artist/Board Member of the Long Island Craft Guild, art educator and passionate conservationist. Great for Earth Day and every day!

Weaving provides an interesting foundation for building knowledge, interest and appreciation for other cultures! In this hand-on, creative class, samples of functional and decorative textiles from all over the world will inspire your own miniature weaving. Basic techniques in weaving, knotting and embellishment will be taught. Finished pieces make great wall hangings, accessories, jewelry or furniture decor. Students can experiment widely or follow instructor's sampler. For beginner as well as experienced students. Class is taught by award winning fiber and visual artist/Board Member of the Long Island Craft Guild,, art educator and creative arts therapist.
