Kelly, Rorie “Light a Candle” Creativity-Sparking Workshop Literature- Creative Writing,
Music,
Visual Arts- Other
The “Light a Candle” workshop aims to spark creativity, helping participants find and use their own voices. As a group, we choose a theme or idea that we would like to shine a light on with our work. Creative prompts and brainstorming get our juices flowing, and we’ll work individually on our own creations. This might include art, writing, or musical expression. Afterwards, will each get a chance to share our work and discuss what we’ve learned. The act of raising our voices honestly can become a powerful source of positive change and connection. The “Light a Candle” workshop puts participants in touch with their own voices, helping them learn to express themselves powerfully.

A novelist and performing artist since 1991, Christine Kallevig folds giant-sized paper as she tells stories. Each fold represents an action, setting, or character, so by the time the story is over, a surprise origami figure is magically created. Included are audience fold-along activities, original material from her books, and origami adaptations of traditional folk tales. Christine uses music, humor, and large origami puppetry to dramatize the stories, and always finishes with an easy fold-along tale so that everyone has an origami souvenir to take home.
