| Express Yourself with Robbi K & Friends |
Literature- Creative Writing, Music, Performing Arts- Literary Artists |
{Express Yourself} is a great program for the 2009 Summer Reading Program! Improvisation has a sort of magical and inspirational quality associated with it - because every human being is creative! Even if you've never improvised before, Robbi K & Friends makes it easy for you to do! Drawing inspiration from the books the children read over the summer, Robbi K, with the help of the children and her musicians, improv songs about the titles, characters, plots and endings of these books. Playing many different musical styles like jazz, latin, rock, the blues, and even classical, Robbi K and the audience create fun songs that the audience can sing along with on the spot!
{Express Yourself} with Robbi K & Friends inspires participants to think, create, contribute, interact, take risks, gain confidence and experience a sense of achievement through jazz improv.

| Keep The Beat |
Multicultural- Other, Music, Performing Arts- Puppetry |
Keep the Beat is multi-lingual world music concert featuring folk songs from around the globe with pulsating energy and interactivity. The emphasis of the concert is how people all over the world are connected by music, history, and daily interaction. Robbi K & Friends chant with you in Yoruba, hum Zulu folk songs like Mbube, dance to the Latin clavé rhythm, and sing in reggae style celebrating l’chaim; and the many things we have in common with each other. Robbi shares stories about her travels as a musician, and through call & response you'll find yourself singing in 5 different languages.
Keep the Beat is a wonderful concert for festivals, schools, and main stage family programs. Children exposed to these songs will not only be singing them for many years to come but hopefully will be inspired to become loving and open-minded participants in the global community.

| Turtle's Shell |
Multicultural- Other, Music, Performing Arts- Storytelling |
This is a wonderful storytelling performance for African-American History Month as well as all year round! Multiple Parents’ Choice Award winning storyteller Robbi K's spirit is clearly contagious, and the entire audience is soon singing and clapping along with the telling of how the turtle got its shell. Movement, singing and chanting set the scene for Robbi to unfold this amusing traditional tale of a little turtle who outwits the fierce leopard and is rewarded with a shell. Robbi moves about constantly, appealing to the audience as she acts out the many characters. This program can also include an African percussionist, budget permitting.
