“WHISTLING TEAKETTLE” SONGS from AMERICAN HISTORY History,
Music,
Other
Based on research done for music for the Genesee Country Village & Museum with Flint Hill Folk, Cathy McGrath presents a program of nineteenth century music in period costume, “Songs That Never Grow Old”, from the book of the same title, published in 1903, which states that it is a “collection of old-time songs that have long been tried and forever loved”. These songs are part of our collective past, yet still resonate today. The audience is encouraged to participate. An experienced folk music performer, Cathy uses a 1870’s guitar, limberjacks, antique flute, and rolled tin whistle in her historical programs which are tailored for specific age groups. Additional performers may be added.
$201- $350

She calls her music “Teakettle Music” because it is steeped in tradition and shared with friends. An experienced folk music performer and family literacy teacher, with a specialty in traditional American singing games and Irish music, Cathy uses guitar, banjo, limberjacks, flute, and penny whistle, and bodhran drum in her programs which are tailored for specific age groups.
