Music,
Performing Arts- Dance
Taikoza presents a unique and exciting program using Japanese Taiko drums (that weigh up to 200lb drums) and bamboo flutes. The program will take you on an unforgettable journey through Japan. It will take students to different areas and through the seasons of Japan. Students will be experiencing a new culture in a fun and exciting way, they will get a chance to see and at times touch the ancestral drums. The taiko drum has the power to touch everyone with its thunderous sounds and vibrations. Taikoza hopes to open the students’ eyes to the richness of the Japanese culture and spark an interest. We hope that this will spark an interest in other world cultures. Taiko has been associated with many aspects of Japanese culture since ancient times. It is said that Taiko was used to drive away the plague and evil spirits. In the Shinto religion, it was used to call upon and entertain the gods, or kami, and in Japanese Buddhism, its sound was the manifestation of the voice of the Buddha.

In her shows, Gigi fosters a love of literacy with the help of her puppet Dionte, Baba Anansi the spider, and her grumpy friend, King Meanie. She reads didactic tales from the magic griot book, and encourages the audience to have more “Ubuntu.” Fans of Gigi Gumspoon, called “Gumbabies”, will learn to not only love themselves, but each other. Not just reading, but checking out & reading both fiction and non-fiction books. Rogers, Robert Professor Pennywhistle and the Round the World Story Balloon Multicultural- Other,
Performing Arts- Puppetry,
Performing Arts- Theater
Imagine a magical balloon that knows when and how to touch down in the most exotic places right in the middle of a story, just at the most important moment. This is the invention of Professor Pennywhistle, whose curiosity and enthusiasm about exploring the world takes him - and us - to the most surprising places. It's a celebration of diversity - and more important - the common things that people share all around the globe. We'll visit the arid landscape of Africa, where the animals must remember the name of a tree that will drop its fruit only if they can shout it out loud; the Palace of the Emperor of China, who has lost his best friend - a nightingale - and doesn't know what to do; a little cottage in the woods of France, where an elderly woman learns the secret of a soup made from only a stone. And finally, we'll return to the good old U.S.A. and meet Pecos Bill, America's first cowboy, and help him lasso a wild tornado. We live in a big, wide, wonderful world, and Professor Pennywhistle is more than happy to be our tour guide.
