IsraAlien Multicultural- Other,

Performing Arts- Other
Music that is inspired by various musical elements from the Jewish Diaspora. A meeting of 2 guitar players who are each uniquely virtuosic in their own right. Gilad Ben Zvi, and Oren Neiman are both Israeli guitar players who have moved to NY within the past 7 years and made it their musical home. They met originally during their mandatory service in the Israeli army and have been close friends ever since. This duo was born through many years of musical collaboration and ongoing discussion about various musical concepts. Isra-Alien: The Isra-Alien project is a journey to the roots of the Israeli music. What is “Israeli music?” Is there such a thing? Is it possible for a 60 year old country to develop its own style and sound of music? These questions have been part of an on-going conversation (sometimes argument) between Gilad and Oren. Many of Israel’s Diasporas contribute something to it, Greek, European, Gypsy, Russian and even American Jazz, Blues and Rock.

The Oren Neiman Quartet Multicultural- Other,

Guitarist Oren Neiman’s music is both innovative and in the forefront of today’s jazz styles, as well as being celebrated for his technical precision. His compositions explore a combination of Jazz sensibility with Middle Eastern rhythms and melody. Oren has regularly performed with his quartet in NY venues like The Bitter End, Detour, Joe’s Pub, The 55 Bar, Cornelia St. Cafe and Makor, as well as touring nationally and internationally (most recently Spain, Canada and Israel). Oren was also an Artist in Residence at the 92nd St. Y, and has received an Arts Alive project grant from Westchester Arts Council. “Neiman’s new recording (Frolic and Detour), with a new quartet, is quite a unique statement. It is predominantly Jazzy, but it also touches upon ethnic themes and rhythmic patterns, often using odd meters and unusual harmony. Also the unusual sound blend of the guitar / trumpet combination gives the listener the impression of hearing something innovative and rarely attempted before.” - Adam Baruch www.jazzis.com For a more detailed description of the band, sets, plus musical examples(Electronic press kit) please see www.sonicbids.com/theorenneimanquartet
