This in-class workshop is presented by award winning and best-selling picture book illustrator and author, Elizabeth Sayles. Picture Books from A-Z
This workshop shows how a picture book is made, beginning with the manuscript, and then the creation of thumbnail sketches, a dummy book, revisions, final sketches, finished art and finally the printed and bound book.
Creating the artwork for a book is a lot of hard work, and its not always easy for pictures to come out just right. Drawings that didn’t work out too well, and many, many sketches are shown to demonstrate this.
Drawing skills and craftsmanship are necessary to be able to create illustrations, but you also need imagination, memory, observation skills and a lot of reference material.
Readings from the books are included.

This in-class workshop is presented by award-winning and best-selling picture book illustrator and author, Elizabeth Sayles.
It begins with a demonstration of how a picture book is made, from typed manuscript to thumbnail sketches, the dummy book, revisions, final sketches, final art and finally arriving at a printed and bound book.
Workshop attendees will create their own stories and illustrate them using props and toys (provided in the workshop) and a lot of imagination. They will be creating the thumbnail sketches for their own picture book!
To create illustrations for a book, artists need to develop drawing skills and craftsmanship. They use pencils, paint, pastels, paper and canvas and other media. But they also use memory, imagination, observation skills to help come up with the ideas for the pictures and stories.
This workshop can be for age groups ranging from 2nd grade - adult
