| Songcatchers: The Evolution of the Music of Rural America |
History, Music |
The Homegrown String Band, a 21st century incarnation of the traditional American family band, presents a program focusing on the people and technologies that have helped shape the oral tradition of American folk music of which they are a part. Interspersed with anecdotes and stories, the band's program of original music, as well as their own unique interpretations of traditional folk material, takes their audiences on a rollicking ride through the sounds of American music. Improvising and interacting like only a family can, and utilizing ten different traditional acoustic instruments (guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, banjo ukulele, mountain dulcimer, tambourine, harmonica, jawharp, and doumbek) as well as a demonstration of Appalachian flatfoot dance, their show is fun and educational for people of all ages.
