| Remembering Anna Marlak: A Trunk Show on Immigration |
History, Multicultural- Other, Performing Arts- Storytelling |
This one-woman show uses artifacts from Mrs. Pierce's grandmother, as she re-tells her immigrant journey all alone, through Ellis Island, to Binghamton, NY, in 1907. This makes the ordeal understandable, powerful, and personal. The storyteller draws each item from the trunk, including photographs, costumes, and small treasures from the Russian and Armenian cultures. The trunk is the very same used by Mr. Pierce's grandmother, who escaped the Armenian Genocide in the early 1900's. Audience members are encouraged to preserve oral histories and artifacts of their ancestors to help understand themselves better; and realize what gifts and curses they have come from.
