“Blast Off With Reading” is the latest creation science celebrity and National Geographic author Steve “The Dirtmeister” Tomecek. This high energy, interactive show is specially designed for family audiences and ties directly into the 2019 summer reading theme of “space”. The show features over a dozen dynamic demos exploring the scientific principles behind airplanes and rockets while also presenting some of the history of flight and space exploration. Following the program Steve will be available to meet and greet audience members and autograph copies of some of his bestselling books including Stars, What A Great Idea, Moon, and his latest National Geographic publication, Dirtmeister’s Nitty Gritty Planet Earth.

The program features over a dozen interactive demonstrations which are safe enough for kids to try themselves. We begin with a look at athletes and why reaction time and hand-eye coordination is so important. We then explore the roles played by inertia, leverage, angular momentum, friction and gravity in everything from bowling and basketball to soccer and baseball!
