Carol Smalley, author of two books about threatened animals and plants for Mitchell Lane Publishers, shares her writing and passion for the environment with participants. With a degree in environmental engineering, Smalley helps participants to create stories to bring attention to animals and plants that need our help. Smalley helped to create the TREK (Traveling through the Region with Exploration Kits) program through the Parent-Child Grant Program. Library receives personalized, signed copy of her book for its collection.

Cathy rekindles the joy of traditional musical activities that enhance learning: singing, dancing, reciting, moving in circles, playing active games, smiling, and cooperating with each other. The dancing limberjack toys are always featured for simple and captivating fun. An experienced folk music performer and family literacy teacher, with a specialty in traditional American singing games, Cathy uses guitar, banjo, limberjacks, flute, and penny whistle in her programs which are tailored for specific age groups. “This program is perfect for preschoolers!” said Robin Benoit of Fairport Public Library.
(An additional version has been created as a family concert for audiences of all ages).

Solomon Northup was lured into slavery in 1841, and was a slave in Louisiana for 12 years before being rescued.
What impact did Northup’s kidnapping have on his wife and
family? In Solomon’s absence, the Northup family became a one-income household. This presentation will describe how his wife, Anne, carried on and saw to the needs of their children. Information on her later life will also be given. Black History topic.

The shows are based upon current national Science Education Standards as adopted by the National Science Teacher's Association.

The average presentation lasts between 45 and 60 minutes. Q & A time is set aside if requested by the school.
Programs of different time spans are available.
Many schools opt to have 2 programs allowing for difference in age and grade levels.
The content of the shows vary when possible taking into consideration developmental levels of the grade school audiences and also is tied into the current curriculum where possible.
The program for the younger children emphasizes that science is fun and worth pursuing with a limited amount of scientific information appropriate for that age group.
The program for the older students has the same emphasis but includes a greater amount of age/developmentally appropriate scientific information
