TELLING COMMUNITY STORIES: ORAL HISTORY AND CULTURAL DOCUMENTATION teaches participants to capture oral histories and community stories using the tools and techniques of cultural documentation. Modules - which may be selected and customized according to school budgets, schedules and available equipment - include: Defining the topic and identifying interview subjects (e.g., Veterans History Projects, Local Heroes and Heroines, Community Histories, and Family Histories), Conducting field interviews, Field interview documentation and release forms, Audio-recording field interviews (analog or digital audio recorders are required), Researching subjects online and in the library, Photographing subjects (digital or analog cameras are required; cameras may be disposable), Videotaping subjects - Part I (analog or digital camcorders are required), Videotaping subjects - Part II (analog or digital camcorders are required), Archiving and sharing oral histories online (computers with Internet access are required), Preparing and practicing to share oral histories in class and in assembly programs, FOR ADULTS: Train the trainer sessions.
