Carved on temple walls and Buddhist caves dating back to 2 B.C. are mythological stories in India. Mala performs Odissi, the oldest Indian classical dance form with rhythmic footwork, elaborate facial expressions, hand-gestures, head, neck and body movements exquisitely choreographed to bring these sculptures to life. A brief slide-show is presented before the performance.

Indian dance dates back to 300 B.C. Participants will briefly learn about the history of dance from South Asia. They will experience some basic dance technique presented in a lecture-demonstration format including audience participation. Rhythmic footwork, elaborate hand-gestures, facial expressions with head, neck and body movements will be taught with a brief performance to classical Indian music in the Odissi dance technique exploring classicism in dance. Participants will perform to traditional Folk dance music.
