The Power of Pop Culture Literature- Other,
Performing Arts- Storytelling,
Visual Arts- Drawing
In addition to being an artist and writer, I’m a teacher with a Masters Degree in Education. I’d love to visit your library this summer and spend some time talking with your kids about the importance of reading and about how a friendship with literature can help young adults achieve their dreams. In 2006 and 2007, I was the artist responsible for the young adult side of the Collaborative Summer Library Program. During those two years, I spent some time traveling around the country giving a presentation I’ve developed based on my artwork, my love of reading, and Joseph Campbell’s philosophy about the persistence of myth and its importance in our lives. I know that all sounds a little scholarly, but the presentation itself is entertaining as well as educational – I talk about Star Wars, and about how it changed my life. I explore the connection between stories as seemingly disparate as The Lion King and the Harry Potter saga, and I talk about how those stories apply to all of us.
