Before Cave Walls...The Transformation Lecture Multicultural- Other,
Performing Arts- Storytelling,

Before Cave Walls…the story on our skin A Dynamic Lecture by Christopher Agostino Before we ever painted a cave wall, we painted ourselves. Christopher Agostino,  author of Transformations: The Story Behind the Painted  Faces, presents an interactive performance lecture on this art of transformation.  An exceptional visual artist and fascinating speaker, he delves into the use of masks and makeup in cultural traditions and  world theater, symbols and iconography in tribal body art, and the influence of traditional sources on the early 20th century modern artists and current culture.  This performance challenges audiences to consider the origins of our collective humanity while taking performance art in a new direction — illustrated live on the faces of volunteers. Originally created as an instructive program for theatrical makeup artists and facepainters, Before Cave Walls… has developed into a performance proven fascinating for artists of all fields and general audiences as well, including family audiences, adults and college students. Presentations for theatres, libraries, festivals, and colleges. Christopher Agostino's StoryFaces Multicultural- Other,
Performing Arts- Storytelling,
Visual Arts- Painting
Christopher Agostino’s StoryFaces is a very different kind of a show. Audience volunteers are brought on to the stage and facepainted very quickly to illustrate the stories he tells. The amazing facepainting holds kids attention while they listen to folktales from around the world and his original tales. With his extensive repertoire of stories he can perform successfully for any size audience and any age: kids, teens and adults. In most shows he paints 8 to 12 volunteers while mesmerizing the audience with a theatrical storytelling style and tales that range from the comic adventure of the first time a man met a crocodile to the heroic tale of the boy Punia and the King of the Sharks. Spoken word and painted faces combine in a unique performance art, as author and artist Christopher Agostino illuminates ancient traditions to completely engage modern audiences. It’s surprising and delightful theater for any age. Several themes are available and special shows can be crafted to feature specific cultures and special topics. Discounts available for libraries on certain dates. Go to agostinoarts.com to see the new video: What Is A StoryFace?

Hero Tales! from Christopher Agostino’s StoryFaces Multicultural- Other,
Performing Arts- Storytelling,
Visual Arts- Painting
Hero Tales! The Original Superhero Stories - featuring adventure tales and legends from around the world in an exciting performance for all ages. My favorite stories to tell to children are traditional hero tales — the original Superhero stories — especially those that feature young or small protagonists, like Li Chi Slays the Dragon, an ancient tale from China about a brave maiden that saves her village, or Punia and the King of the Sharks, about a boy who battles a shark. The reason Punia is so brave is because he is small — which is a wonderful encouragement to give to kids, that the small can be heroes, as in Aesop’s Fable The Lion and the Mouse. StoryFace shows are a surprising combination of storytelling and visual arts that fully engages the entire audience. A wide variety of tales are available to suit the ages of your audience, including samurai adventure tales for older kids. If I’ve been to your library before, I keep a record of what I’ve told, so I can always return with new stories for your audience. Go to agostinoarts.com to see the video: What Is A StoryFace?
