Get ready to rock with the Wizard of Books! This summer, magician Ron Cain invites young readers to help him form a wizard rock band. The 45-minute magic show highlights the 2018 New York state summer reading program theme, Libraries Rock! Appearing as the Wizard of Books, Ron uses magical, musical tricks to encourage children to read. Volunteers perform illusions with offbeat instruments he conjures. Youngsters also learn about literary and historical wizards, including Merlin, Morgan le Fay and Harry Potter. The Harry Potter universe has inspired its own musical genre called wizard rock. Since 2002, bands like Harry and the Potters and Draco and the Malfoys have performed songs about J.K. Rowling's wizarding books.
