This weekly program will introduce students to mindful meditation, the current research in neuroscience, health, and wellness; and the how to build and maintain a home practice. Classes will have weekly themes such as -Healing at the Genetic Level- or -Eliciting the Relaxation Response- and a weekly technique for inducing a meditative state such as: breath awareness, zen breath counting, body awareness, lovingkindness, mantra and more. Emphasis will be on a secular approach with scientific data to support claims. If a projector is available slides will be presented during the first part of the lesson, and if relevant to the coursework, a handout will be provided on an as needed basis. Resources will also be provided for additional study.

This program will be geared towards people who need the assistance of a chair to develop their yoga practice. Seated exercises as well as standing postures with the use of a yoga mat (students must bring their mats) and a chair will be performed by student and teacher, in addition to a short meditation to begin and end the class. A focus on wellness and timing the movement to the breath to elicit the "relaxation response" will help restore health, flexibility, balance, and mobility to the students' bodies. In addition, yoga has been proven to have many mental benefits as well including reductions in stress, anxiety, anger, sick days from work, time in the hospital, and substance abuse. Conversely, there is a corresponding increase in health and well-being, immune function, empathy, compassion, focus, attentiveness, and more.
