Cathy rekindles the joy of traditional musical activities that enhance learning: singing, dancing, reciting, moving in circles, playing active games, smiling, and cooperating with each other. The dancing limberjack toys are always featured for simple and captivating fun. An experienced folk music performer and family literacy teacher, with a specialty in traditional American singing games, Cathy uses guitar, banjo, limberjacks, flute, and penny whistle in her programs which are tailored for specific age groups. “This program is perfect for preschoolers!” said Robin Benoit of Fairport Public Library. (An additional version has been created as a family concert for audiences of all ages).

Gary will tell you about the Non-GMO Project Verified label to look for, as well as explain organic certifications. Learn about a Bill known as the Dark Act, a life-changing Bill that, if passed, will deny Americans the right to know what is in our food. Also, find out how the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), if enacted, will take away our liberties. We will talk about the positive efforts of the “Right to Know” labeling legislation, already ratified in some states in the U.S. Join many other community members who want to be part of the “Right to Know.”

Learn how to make sauerkraut and other homemade foods preserved by using lacto-fermentation, an ancient preservation method used by Vikings. Unlock not only vitamins and minerals, but also enhance gut health by incorporating probiotics into your diet! Participants can watch their choice of fermentation project at the library and taste the final product when complete. They will learn the skills to make their own at home, and try a variety of Viking foods at the end of the presentation. This program pairs well with “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon

During this interactive seminar, we will explore several teas from the top oolong tea producing countries of China and Taiwan, along with a rare oolong from India. Learn about how oolong tea differs from the teas in other categories, specific health benefits associated with oolong tea, and the history and lore surrounding the teas being tasted. Three teas will be tasted and discussed including: Ti Kuan Yin; Formosa Fancy Oolong; and Nilgiri Frost Oolong.
