The Civil War Sound of Music History,
Literature- Poetry,
Music
The Civil War Sound of Music is a concert of 2-50 minute sets of music with a 20 intermission, supplemented with visual images. The length of the program can be adjusted to satisfy the sponsor. The program presents the variety of songs that were popular, both with the soldiers and with loved ones at home. A brief historical note about each song will be presented, as well as information about the composer. The presentation will touch very briefly on the many forms of instrumental music that were also available, such as regimental bands, brass bands, and fifers and drummers. A special description of the music of the Irish volunteer will be included. Actual sheet music from the Civil War era (from the private collection of Michael Yates) will be available for viewing.
