Grandfather Frost weaves his magic through the Russian forest in a tale spun by Baba Yaga and her mischievous cat. Featuring Vladimir Vasyagin, our international artist in residence from Tomsk, Siberia, this traditional story introduces Russian heritage through its folk characters, music and unique style of puppetry.

Open Hand Theater’s vibrant puppets of all shapes and sizes, some over 12 feet tall, are taking on the issue of bullying and escalating conflict in a colorful and delightful imaginary land inhabited by juggling dwarfs, stretchy bouncing giants, friendly flowers and other wise musical beings. Springer and Sprong, two seemingly inseparable pals, tumble into a series haphazard events that could lead to a catastrophic quarrel. Will the entire town follow them into battle? … or will a small stream of harmony bring them all back together again?

With its interactive play stage, Open Hand Theater engages children ages pre-K - 2nd grade in their own performance of the well-loved story, Hats for Sale. In our version each monkey is a vowel sound. With puppets and a stage, sounds and lots of fun with repetition, children participate in acting out the story.
