The places visited depend upon the desires of the group. Suggested subjects: mines, Native American sites, historic buildings past and present, battle sites, vanished hamlets, landscape archaeology, and others.

Addressing the current state of historic preservation ranging from buildings to photographs and documents. An inside view from experience on obtaining funding, government cooperation, community relations, and educating the public to recognize what is historically valuable and what to do when it is identified.

How To Read the Woods (AKA Landscape Archaeology) History,

Into this century what are now park woodlands were inhabited by small communities. As one travels these areas, evidence of former habitations can be seen--evidence such as foundations, stone walls, wells fruit trees, trash heaps, latrine pits, and introduced plant species are common and obvious. But most people don't realize what they are looking at when they see it. This show is an introduction to what is actually a form of archaeology which explains to those who frequently hike or otherwise are in the forest and fields, how to differentiate between the works of man and the works of nature. Can also be done in conjunction with a field trip.

Behind the Scenes History of the Palisades Intestate Park Commission History,
Literature- Other

The PIPC is now over a century old. It was founded, at least overtly, on the premise of land preservation. But there were other hidden and nefarious agendas which would never be considered in this day and age. the PIPC has a long history, but much of it has not been recorded or reported. In more recent times it sdarker side has been revealed. A lecture and discussion of this and other aspects of PIPC development behind the scenes then and today.

Colonial Era Dutch Houses of the Hudson Valley History

a tour of the Colonial-era Dutch houses of the region focussing on Rockland and Bergen Counties. Many are still extant, but many have undergone extensive refurbishment and modifications, while others still (which are featured) have been razed. Also discusses efforts to preserve structures of this period and some failures. Gistories of the families who owned them and how they made their livings are included.

Diffusionism is a title for a branch of archaeology which asserts that there were Old World cultures in the Americas long before Columbus sailed. In recent years findings throughout the New World have necessitated a reevaluation of the Land Bridge Theory. This programs presents some of the evidence for this as well as some of the information arising from current research.

This is a slide show and lecture discussing churches of all faiths throughout the region. They date from the 18th Century to the 20th Century. Origins, cultures, and roles they played in the history of their areas as well as intersting anecdotes about some of the events and individuals who were involved are part and parcel of the story.
