Join Mr. Fish or Lisa Lou in this fast paced visual magical show designed specifically for grades K-3 with the purpose of creating exciting for Mathematics. The performance explores curriculum specific mathematical principles; counting forward, backward, by 2's, 5's and 10's, addition and subtraction, the use of doubles, and the clock to assist in understanding fractions. Magic, music, circus skills, comedy and audience participation keep students focused and excited.

Flying Ship Productions brings the Holocaust and the American Civil Rights movement together in this inspiring Broadway-style musical. Follow the parallel lives of a Jewish Family in Poland and a Black family in America during the turbulent years from 1939-1964. Though living in different parts of the world, their lives are amazingly alike. When the Black soldier helps liberate the Jewish youth from the concentration camp, a connection is made that resonates years later during the height of the Civil Rights Movement. Four actor/singer/dancers bring to life this uplifting story of hope, healing, and gratitude.

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BOOK by Steven James Petruccio Literature- Authors,

Artist Steven James Petruccio, who has illustrated over 60 books, traces the history of illustration as a vital art form. Using actual sketches and finished artwork, he takes the audience on a journey through the stages of creating an illustrated book from story to published volume. How big will the book be? Will the pictures be in color and how many will there be? After learning and seeing all the steps of creating a finished book, ideas are solicited from the audience and used by the artist to transform a blank piece of paper into a finished illustration. Mr. Petruccio is the original illustrator of the popular Tonka books and a series of books for the Smithsonian Institution Oceanic Collection. His book Manatee Winter was a Parents Choice Honor Book, and Seashore Surprises, which he also illustrated, was a Reading Rainbow Featured Book. While visiting a school, Mr. Petruccio will be happy to do book signings, and informal discussions, as time permits, in addition to having his artwork on display for students to browse.

This clever performance is a side-splitting selection of famous folktales from Africa, starring Anansi the Spider, whose appetite always overrules his intellect. Anansi loves to eat and hates to work. He tries to trick other animals out of their food, but there’s no free lunch for Anansi. All of his schemes leave him hungrier than ever! These hilarious stories are brought to life by the Crabgrass Puppet Theatre with a dynamic blend of traditional African design, infectious music and fabulous puppetry!

Thrown off their farms because they are too old to work, a donkey, a dog and a rooster form a singing group and set off for the big city to make it in show biz. Along the way they meet a nasty bunch of robbers, and it’s up to the animals to get rid of them. In doing so, they discover that everyone has a special talent and that only by working together can they achieve their dreams. Crabgrass Puppet Theatre presents this classic Brothers Grimm folktale with enchanting and whimsical puppets, and a hilarious musical score!

One of America’s foremost storytellers recreates tales from all over the world, bringing life to his characters and painting pictures with his words. His vast repertoire can be focused to any age and any theme—including Stories From Around the World, Legacy of Courage(Tales from the Holocaust, African and Native American Histories), Jewish Tales, Spooks and Ghosts, From Aesop to Zeus, and Various Holiday Themes. Also interactive prgorams Think it Write It bringing stories to life, and Create-A-Tale learn to tell and take stories home. Special programs can sometimes be created upon request. In addition to the performance, Mr. Fierst can conduct Whole Language workshops in storytelling, process writing or creative dramatics. Children will discover the structure of a story, including character, action, conflict and resolution. Gerald Fierst is a storyteller, writer and teacher with a B.A. from Yale University and certification as a Performing Artist in the Schools from Teachers College, Columbia University. He has presented performances and workshops all over the country at festivals, schools, museums, synagogues, theatres and recreation centers. He is a master of his art, and presents a stimulating performance for all ages!

Richard Stillman and Gerald Fierst are THE MYTHMAKERS, who act out as well as narrate stories from around the world, accompanied by authentic musical instruments from each culture. Programs can focus on various themes, including ANTIQUE MUSIC/ ANCIENT TALES, (stories and music from around the world) RENAISSANCE/ MEDIEVAL MONSTERS AND MINSTRESL, JEWISH FOLKTALES WITH KLEZMER MUSIC, TALL TALES/ AMERICAN FOLK MUSIC, and HOLIDAY TALES AND MUSIC AROUND THE WORLD. The show is full of audience participation and climaxes as the whole audience helps in creating an improvised story, which uses the models of the past to create a contemporary myth.

• THE WORLD MOSAIC OF MUSIC AND DANCE explores the musical instruments and dance styles from many cultures around the world, including Africa, Asia, Spain, South America, Ireland, America and more.

• TAP DANCING TROUBADOURS OF VAUDEVILLE explores how music is created with the feet, fingers and voice, by recapturing the liveliness of old-time vaudeville.

• THE IRISH MINSTREL takes a musical trip to the Emerald Isle with bagpipes, stories, jigs and reels, using authentic Irish instruments and traditional Irish dances.

• HOLIDAY TROUBADOURS takes a musical journey around the world to the winter celebrations of all cultures—Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza, and other winter holidays.

. PECOS BILL RIDES THE OREGON TRAIL stories and songs of the Wild West and Oregon Trail are woven together with cowboy hat tricks, western rope spinning and more.

. COUNTRY HOEDOWN Enjoy banjo playing, square dancing, clog dancing, cowboy rope tricks, and more in this exciting western program filled with fun and participation.

Dance performances of various cultures around the world, with an emphasis on the African American Heritage. Workshops and residencies can also be arranged. Programs available include:

• AMERICAN DANCE FROM AFRICA TO BROADWAY, which takes the audience on a fun-filled journey through the evolution of popular American dance from its African roots and European influences to soft shoe, tap, minstrel, and social dancing, culminating with the Broadway and club dances of today.

• JOURNEY INTO AFRICA takes a fascinating excursion from Senagal to Soweto through the traditional rhythms, songs, instruments, and dances that are an integral part of everyday African life. Two dancers plus a musician offer an authentic presentation of a culture that has profoundly influenced us all.

• DANCE, DANCE, DANCE tours Africa, Poland, Asia, the Caribbean and other nations around the world through the social dances that reflect each culture. Two versatile dancers perform the African Yambala, Chinese Sword Dance, Israeli Dodi-Li, Tango, Polka, Waltz, Jitterbug and more in a fast-paced, colorful production.

• RHYTHM DANCES FROM AROUND THE WORLD continues the journey to different countries around the world, including dances from Mexico, Greece, Hawaii, Italy, Japan, and the Caribbean.
