| Graham, Darlene | The Folk Music and Stories of Immigration |
Multicultural- Other |
Our experience takes us through the stories of the people who ventured off to the United States of America and tells it through the songs and traditions of the lands they left in search of new opportunities. The music and stories of their homelands provided comfort in a foreign world where they hoped for a better life. Immigrants faced an uncertain journey leaving their homeland with nothing more than they could carry in their hands and on their backs, allowing their hopes and dreams to carry them on their journey. Fear gripped many who entered Ellis Island, the ‘Island of Tears’, as they didn’t speak the language or know what answers they may have to give to unasked questions. Many sold their houses and all they owned to have a chance at this. This of course being work, food, and success. We’ll focus on the music that people of the Early (North Western European) and New Immigration (mostly South and East European) held on to.
These people held on to their culture though music, and dance.

| Edgecomb, Diane | Irish Shenanigans |
Multicultural- Other, Performing Arts- Magic, Performing Arts- Storytelling |
Shenanigans: There is plenty of laughter and delight in this animated retelling of Ireland's best-loved gems. The storytelling includes Irish favorites like Gilly Blackfoot where a young lad's aversion to washing his feet causes him to fall in with a fairy band. Cloaks of Invisibility and magic spells abound as hapless Gilly sets out to help free the Princess of France. Known for her vivid comedic style, Diane Edgecomb brings delight to her interpretations of these classic Irish favorites. This performance is also available with Diane's longtime collaborator Margot Chamberlain accompanying the program on Celtic harp.
Storyteller Wows Millicent Crowd: "Unfolded with zest and humor, the story captivated the audience which scarcely moved in the course of its telling. Proof, if any such were needed, that storytelling is as vital as ever, and is in good company in the presence of Diane Edgecomb and Margot Chamberlain." ~ The Advocate, Fairhaven, MA

| Koeraus, Sol | Flamenco y Sol |
Multicultural- Other, Performing Arts- Other, Performing Arts- Dance |
Our performance is a wonderful blend of entertainment and education. The artists - in full, colorful, traditional Flamenco costumes - perform and explain the intricacies of Flamenco dance, song, and its rhythms. Participation from the audience is essential. The objectives of this program are: to show the origins of the flamenco dance, song and music; to demonstrate and relate the relationships between Spain and the Latin American cultures; and present a high quality, entertaining multilingual program.
This dynamic program highlights the rhythms and emotions of Flamenco. Flamenco began in Southern Spain, and we bring to our educational programs the essence of the different culture that influenced Flamenco: Andalusian, Gypsy, North African, Arabic and Judaic. Unlike other art forms, the traditional dances do not tell stories but instead portray feelings. The program consists of a series of solos, duets and company numbers.
