This program is for groups who are interested in history archaeology, architecture, ornithology, zoology, geology, botany, forestry, horticultue, or any related subject. The subect of concentration is determined by the hosting agency but the site will be chosen by the presenter.

A slide show and lecture explaining how the earliest settlers and the local Indian tribes relied on commonly growing wild plants and fungi to supplement their meager diets and to treat ailments. Many are right under our noses and were familiar fare to our ancestors> Many are far more nutritious than garden variery vegetables and yet are ignored by modern man.

Smith, Dr. Andrew J. How To Read the Woods (AKA Landscape Archaeology) History,

Into this century what are now park woodlands were inhabited by small communities. As one travels these areas, evidence of former habitations can be seen--evidence such as foundations, stone walls, wells fruit trees, trash heaps, latrine pits, and introduced plant species are common and obvious. But most people don't realize what they are looking at when they see it. This show is an introduction to what is actually a form of archaeology which explains to those who frequently hike or otherwise are in the forest and fields, how to differentiate between the works of man and the works of nature. Can also be done in conjunction with a field trip.

The colonists of the Hudson Valley and the Indians of the area believed that the nearby woodlands and waterways were the home of some very fascinating creatures. The Jersey Devil was the most famous of these, but there were others such as serpents, trolls, and giants. Local examples are compared with similar legends from around the world.

A lecture and slide show detailing several folk tales and true stories of the region. Included are hauntings and ghosts, lost mines, peculiar landmarks. Many of these sites can still be visited by interested parties.

This program focusses on species (mostly animals) which have either become extinct in recent centuries or are highly endangered. Some are extirpated from their original ranges but may be making a come back. A few were declared extinct but have later been found to still exist.

A slide show and lecture offering an introdution to plant identification by using texts and field guides and by pointing out the characteristics to look for without getting into deep technical discussion and analysis> NAture study is often presented as too overpowering for many and this can be intimidating. this program is a "user friendly" approach to thsi field of study which should make it a fun experience rather than an overpowering one.

the basic theories and principles of land stewardship and management. Includes biodiversity studies, mapping, and the importance of producing a baseline database for the wildlife past, present, and future.

this program is a slide show and discussion of many scenic areas on and near the Hudson River and as far inland as northwestern New Jersey. All are within an hour's drive and easily accessible. It is designed to further public appreciation of the unique scenery of the region.

The history and practice of tracking is explained by a pracitioner of the art. Basic theory and tools will be explained and followed by a hands-on instruction in the field.
