Craft project, Party favor, and really cool toy all swirled into one! It's that classic ribbon-on-a-stick toy. When TREVOR opens up his Big Red Ribbon Suitcase, ooh and ahhs go through the crowd as they catch sight of all the different colors of ribbon Everyone gets their favorite attached to a wooden handle. And then the creativity begins! First, the kids decorate their handle with a wide variety of tapes. There's no limits to the amount of tape they can use, so the results are fabulous! And when the kids are done with their art project, they all begin waving them around in the air in one big Ribbon Dance! It really adds to the festiveness of your event. And the looks of joy on the children's faces are priceless. Plus, everyone has a personalized souvenir to take home, and will remember your event each time they pull out their Ribbon Dancer for more FUN later on.

Kathy has presented hundreds of fun hands-on learning programs for kids around the Northeast, and consulted with schools, libraries, and makerspaces on how to create great hands-on learning environments for all ages. She is co-producer of the Troy Mini Maker Faire and a popular speaker at Maker Faires across the country.

Try your hand at a tradition of drawing that is detail oriented yet flowing all at the same time! Using fine drawing pens instead of messy ink, learn how to translate a landscape photo into your own black and white composition. Pick up easy drawing techniques to create interest and texture. Learn how to free up your hand and your style to create spontaneous, fresh and even daring images while listening to soothing music. No experience necessary; inspiring examples will be shown. Feel free to bring in a landscape photo of your own or select from instructor's collection.

Weaving provides an interesting foundation for building knowledge, interest and appreciation for other cultures! In this hand-on, creative class, samples of functional and decorative textiles from all over the world will inspire your own miniature weaving. Basic techniques in weaving, knotting and embellishment will be taught. Finished pieces make great wall hangings, accessories, jewelry or furniture decor. Students can experiment widely or follow instructor's sampler. For beginner as well as experienced students. Class is taught by award winning fiber and visual artist/Board Member of the Long Island Craft Guild,, art educator and creative arts therapist.

I talk about my cartoon creation process, my personal guidelines on what can and can’t be done, and the conflicts along the way. I finish with a drawing demonstration. If a projector is available, I'll show slides while discussing some of my more controversial work.

Using scraps of fabric, children will design and put together a crazy quilt type of design that will be glued or ironed on to a fabric background. Adding sewn details is optional. Markers and sequins and other objects can also be used to enhance design.

Using watercolor paints, participants will be guided in the creation of images relating to the season. These will be applied to cards with envelopes or they can be reproduced. No drawing skills are necessary. Cheerful, encouraging guidance will be given.
