Performing Arts- Other
Workshops allow our performers to share the joy of Taiko with their audiences. Taiko is used as an educational tool to teach the music, culture and history of Japan to the community; and to imbue a strong appreciation for cultural tradition and the arts. Our Taiko workshop begins with a warm-up routine to prepare to strike the Taiko in a safe and controlled manner so there will be no injuries during the class. We then proceed to teach the basic swings involved with the various traditional pieces to be taught. After learning a few basic rhythms, the participants will learn two pieces that require not only striking the Taiko; but also movement around the Taiko which incorporate Martial Arts movements & traditional Folk Dance movements.
