Mark McKenna, a 26 year veteran Comic Book artist for, Marvel, DC and Dark Horse Comics has worked on over 450 comics and over 7000 pages of artwork. He has worked on comics such as The X Men, The Hulk, Batman and most recently Star Wars... Mark has created a program that gets the audience involved in the comic book creating mentality from the story inception to the 5 stages of creating a comic book. Can be "hands on" or a straight lecture. Also, Mark has created a kids book property Banana Tail in which his 3rd book, Banana Tail's Colorful Adventure shipped late last Summer. He has a 25 minute power point presentation on how he created the world of Banana Tail and his friends Tic Tac, the plaid zebra and Reena, the mood-color changing rhino!

Be Creative! is a program of multicultural folktales told story theatre style by 2 professional actors. The program is highly interactive -- featuring audience participation, language and cultural information, humor, and mime. The emphasis is on encouraging reading -- the stories were all found in library books! -- and on creativity. Audience volunteers even get to join the actors in acting out the stories! The Wondermakers have been performing in schools and libraries since 1985 with Young Audiences. The Director of The Wondermakers, Gail Golden, is also Mrs. Claus in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on NBC and was Cinderella's Fairy Godmother at Walt Disney World!

RiverJack’s( comprises one-third of The Zucchini Brothers ) highly engaging style motivates students to participate actively in the creative process. Through dynamic performance, demonstration, and audience participation, RiverJack provides an introduction to the processes of looping, songwriting, and recording, and leaves participants with a finished product that they are proud to call their own. RiverJack uses “loop” (live recording) technology to achieve a full band sound by layering percussion, bass, acoustic guitars, harmonica,trumpet and vocals. During a 60- to 75-minute session, participants will explore the craft of songwriting by writing and recording a song that is uniquely their own, based on a theme or curriculum-related topic. They will work cooperatively to form a musical composition by: brainstorming ideas, writing lyrics, composing a melody, and gaining personal experience with the creative process. The song is then rehearsed and recorded, and the library will receive a CD/mp3 containing the participants’ song.

What inspires you? Is it a delicious meal? A glorious sunset? Perhaps a dear friend's smiling face? Whatever it may be, let's get fired up! In this concert/workshop -- perfect for the NYS Summer Reading Program *Be Creative* and *Express Yourself* themes -- acclaimed singer-songwriter Glen Roethel will perform some of his POSI (positive message) songs to get our juices flowing, then we'll awaken our inner songwriters when Glen guides us with creative exercises to inspire us and help us write our own POSI song. When we're done, we'll make a quick demo recording so that later on Glen can spice it up, post it at GLENROETHEL.COM, INSPIRELINE.COM (and possibly at the POSITIVEMUSICASSOCIATION.COM websites) and even email it to each participant -- iPod ready.
