It's a Mystery! Three tables are set with exciting and interesting props - and the audience will decide which table will be performed and at what time - a mystery to the audience as well as to the performer! Encourage audience to wear mystery type clothing as spectacles, magic wands, capes, hats, feather boas and crowns. Effects include appear and disappearing silks, rope tricks, juggling, etc. Also Available: We Investigate Reading - Wear your investigators cap and bring your magnifying glass to be the Reading Detective! This engaging magical performance demonstrates how reading can enable magical cooking, history, science, and mayhem!

An overview of traditional music styles from different parts of the world, display of world instruments, listening to music samples, and singing songs from different regions, as well as an opportunity to play rhythm instruments. Regions include: Africa, Latin America, The Orient and Mid-East, Europe and The British Isles, Australia/New Zealand, North America/Native America. This is appropriate for a series of 5-6 sessions, each 1 to 2 hours in length in order to do justice to each region; however, may be shortened for highlights or focus on a particular region, such as, Celtic Contributions to World Music. The program may be adapted for younger children and families, school children (elementary to middle school), or adults. Songs are taught through phonetic pronunciation in relevant languages of the area.

Soft Sculpture hands-on workshops for ages 9 and up. Using recycled nylon pantyhose and all variety of notions, yarns, buttons,etc, participants create a sculptural doll or puppet, or a "mural" can be made from everyone's soft sculpture depicting a specific theme (ie; Hudson River, etc) Needle and thread used (a life skill!) Hot glue guns employed. Artist was a puppet builder for Jim Henson and gives a slide presentation of her work, with Q & A prior to session.

Kumalo, Robbi Osebo's Drum Multicultural- Other,

This is a wonderful storytelling performance for African-American History Month as well as all year round! Multiple Parents’ Choice Award winning storyteller Robbi K's spirit is clearly contagious, and the entire audience is soon singing and clapping along with the telling of how the turtle got its shell. Movement, singing and chanting set the scene for Robbi to unfold this amusing traditional tale of a little turtle who outwits the fierce leopard and is rewarded with a shell. Robbi moves about constantly, appealing to the audience as she acts out the many characters. This program can also include an African percussionist, budget permitting.

Children will increase pre reading and literacy skill while chanting, singing, bopping and marching to favorites like some of the following: This Land is Your Land by Woody Guthrie and Kathy Jakobsen This Land Is My Land by George Littlechild Let it Shine  by Ashley Bryant  De Colores and Other Latin American Folksongs for Children  by Jose Luis Orozco and Elisa Kleven   Enjoy the program so many NY City children love at the NY Public Libraries. Powhatan opens the program with a greeting song followed by a brief explanation of his tribal affiliation. The bulk of the program includes stories from several Native nations. He includes Native drum and flute playing to bring traditional music to the audience. In addition, he interjects his own contemporary music through song using guitar to accompany himself. There is a question and answer period. The program concludes with the audience invited to join Powhatan in dance as he sings and drums a social dance.Powhatan is also available for workshops that would include but not restricted to the construction of traditional jewelry/instruments and traditional tools.

Current Programs: Summer Reading 2011 Tour –“One World, Many Stories” –Aladdin and The Adventures of Mr. Toad Fall 2011 Holiday Classics Tour –The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and A Christmas Carol Spring 2012 Ancient Tales Tour –Robin Hood and The Myths of Ancient Greece Theatre workshops are available on every tour. This year marks our 28th season! The Hampstead Stage Company's mission is to educate youth audiences throughout the country by bringing classic literature to life through live theatre, thus sparking an interest in reading the classics, instilling a love and appreciation of the arts, and preserving theatre for future generations. We believe that the arts are an expression of beauty, a mode of self-expression, and a means to explore other cultures and viewpoints. The children feel as if they are causing the magic to happen. Whatever they imagine seems to come true. One lucky child who dreams of flying is even levitated in mid-air!
