This class has a lecture and a lab component. We are surrounded by, infiltrated, and even share our genes with microbes. Are they friend, or foe? Are you on a quest to annihilate your best allies? Patrons will be introduced to the world of beneficial microbes and how they protect us and promote our health. Patrons will learn about different classes of microbes, their morphology, and learn how to culture petri-film, and test pH of various experimental mediums. Would compliment nicely with a reading of Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions, or Rodney Deitert's The Human Super-Organism. Learn the basics of soap making and then make your own soap to take home. This class will discuss the types of artisan soap making that exists from cold and hot processed soap to melt and pour. Students will see a demonstration of melt and pour soap making and take home a sample from class. By being aware of what has happened to our food, we can understand what is behind so many major events and turmoil occurring in the United States and around the world. We will also discuss the GMO food labeling legislation. How we spend our dollars sends a most powerful message. The future of humanity, animals and the ecosystem depends upon our food choices.

Join Gary Feldman, consumer food educator and innovator in the nutritional supplement retail field, when he focuses on who owns our food and how corporate conglomerates are impacting our food choices. Learn about the Non-GMO Project, a movement by the natural food industry whereby hundreds of food companies are informing consumers about how their products adhere to a new, higher standard. Gary will shed light on a Bill known as the “Dark Act,” which would deny Americans the right to know what is in our food. We will discuss how to preserve our food choices.
