Talking Drums is a musical performance designed to involve and enhance participants’ knowledge and appreciation of African/African Diaspora music through its instruments and songs. Structured for early childhood audiences, Talking Drums utilizes lecture-demonstration and performance techniques with lavish appropriations of enthusiasm. In this program, participants are taught how various traditional African instruments are made and played. The results are totally tantalizing in that students learned to count, spell, and jump all to the beat of the African drum! Join Kobla Dente as he leads audiences on a journey of musical exploration

What's all the buzz about HOUSE CONCERTS? If your curiosity is peaked but you don't know where to begin, join us tonight for our own HOUSE CONCERT in the comfort of our library, featuring the sweet voice and acoustic guitar of singer-songwriter, Glen Roethel. Glen just released his second CD, Smaller Things, so this will be a CD release house concert! Glen's songs have a positive message, and his musicianship has gained him prestigious teaching positions at Summersongs and Wintersongs (summersongs.com, songwriting and performance camps for adults) and at the SoundConnections annual music conference in Kansas City, Missouri. In 2009, Glen was selected over more than 150 big-name applicants as guitarist for the Harmonizing With Humanity house band to perform a two-day music festival a Hohokam Stadium in Arizona to raise awareness and funds for Autism research. Tonight, Glen will play two 30-minute sets with a 20-minute intermission for refreshments. Then, if you have questions, ask Glen how you can host concerts in your home with some of your favorite touring artists! SOLO, DUO, TRIO. How Yankee Doodle Got His Dandy. Uncle Joe and the Rosebud Ramblers tell the story of every day life during the time of the War 1812 in story and music. They offers a mix of lively up tempo energetic old time fiddle tunes, family oriented traditional folk songs and story telling to illustrate life and capture the imagination of children and adults of all ages.

Herdman, Priscilla Contemporary Folk Music Music
Priscilla Herdman has been called a singer’s singer, and is regarded as one of the most admired interpreters of contemporary folk music in the United States. Called an extraordinary song finder and an eloquent performer, audiences who come to hear her sing (and to sing with her) are embraced by her warm and powerful performance. She has toured nationally for thirty years and has released twelve CDs for both adults and children, (three are award winning family albums Stardreamer, Daydreamer and Moondreamer) and three trio albums with friends Anne Hills and Cindy Mangsen. Priscilla is a New York native and lives in Pine Plains, in the Hudson River Valley Region.

This is Spook's most popular program. Spook’s been to every American state except North Dakota, Hawaii, Michigan and Long Island (huh?). And he’s met all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds – some comical, some downright sad. In this humorous, heartwarming and inspiring concert Spook will share stories and songs about the places he’s been, people he’s met and the jobs and other predicaments he’s found himself in. An excellent program for Libraries, Arts Centers, Churches, Schools and other meeting places. Pete Seeger covers some of Spook's songs and the two perform together several times per year. Jones, Dean Songwriting with the Fleas Literature- Creative Writing,

Dog on Fleas will begin the program by playing some of their original songs and talking about the writing process for the songs. Band members will then divide the audience up into groups and then help the groups write songs. The songwriting will be guerilla-style quick, and will hopefully let audience members take home a template for how to write a song, and most importantly access an outlet for self-expression. The band will then perform the songs with help from audience members. Dog on Fleas will end the program with more of their own music.

Laster, Gwen Creative Strings Workshop/Performance Music
NEWS The Creative Strings Workshop Developed by Gwen Laster, this workshop method brings together traditionally trained string players in nurturing Composition and Improvisation skills. Jazz and Global music repertoire are also used to emphasize individuality of sound, music theory and ear training. All students record their own CDs of the music they've composed, arranged and/or studied as an end session activity. The workshop concludes with a live performance of individual and ensemble music composed and rehearsed during workshop

“Remembering Louis Armstrong” Louis Armstrong defined what it was to play Jazz. His amazing technical abilities, the joy and spontaneity, and inventive musical mind still dominate jazz to this day. His music influenced not only instrumentalists, but vocalists such as Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. Sonny & Perley along with a band of swinging musicians bring to life some of his iconic recordings including Basin Street Blues, Dream A Little Dream and St. Louis Blues as well as favorites from his popular recordings with Ella and many others.
