| Crocker, Keith | 3-D MOVIES - Comin' at Ya! |
History, Media- Film, Performing Arts- Theater |
When Hollywood received competition from the television studios in the 1950's, they pulled out a secret weapon called 3-D. Wearing a pair of blue and red cardboard glasses literally allowed the images on the movie screen to jump right off the screen and right into the audiences lap. 3-D was a process that was far from perfect, but for a brief period of time it was a rage country wide and gave some new excitement to the idea of going to the movies. Recently, 3-D has re-emerged and is again gaining in popularity and giving the couch potato audience a reason to rise out of their seats and come back to the movies. This program is one of the most complete you'll ever see in regards to the history of 3-D films and it includes a memorabilia show including posters and stills, plus a DVD presentation of trailers for films originally shot in 3-D. | Goldstein, Dana | First Lady: Eleanor Roosevelt and the Changing Role of Women in American History |
History, Multicultural- Other, Performing Arts- Theater |
Eleanor Roosevelt had a view of American History that few can rival. In this original, interactive production, Eleanor shares her amazing journey: from her sheltered childhood at the turn of the century, to her volunteer work, on to her support of women’s suffrage, her life as a First Lady through depression and war, and then beyond that, to her active role in the blossoming civil rights movement and her work at the United Nations, where she was figural in the creation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Eleanor Roosevelt wasn’t just a First Lady; she was First Lady of the World.
First Lady introduces audiences to some of the most influential women of the 20th century. Historical music and audience interaction bring students closer to the people and events that helped transform the role of women in the United States. | Edgecomb, Diane | New Age Gawain and the Green Knight |
History, Literature- Other, Performing Arts- Storytelling |
A Mischievous Medieval Romp!
Diane Edgecomb accompanied by Margot Chamberlain – Celtic Harp.
The stakes are high for Arthur’s men’s group. First, into their midst, comes a bungee-jumping Green Man who delivers an ancient macho challenge. Then a mysterious rider gallops off with his head under his arm, taunting Gawain to follow. But the greatest fun comes when three very different female archetypes use their wiles in an attempt to corrupt Gawain’s new age virtue. Welcome to New Age Gawain and the Green Knight, Edgecomb’s hilarious send up of the men’s movement. Loosely based on the 14th century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, Edgecomb’s comedic adaptation has New Age Arthurian knights running for their therapists faster than you can say Litigation! Tom Megan’s score provides a lush atmosphere of sound as we journey along the ‘road less traveled by’ in this fun loving tale..
This 50-minute performance can be combined with other seasonal tales for a longer wintertime program or stand alone as entertainment for any time of year. Appropriate for audiences ages 12 and up. This unusual New Year's tale is available in December and January.

| LaRue, Michele | Someone Must Wash the Dishes: An Anti-Suffrage Satire |
History, Performing Arts- Theater |
Many women fought against getting the vote in the early 1900s, but none with more charm, prettier clothes—and less logic—than the fictional speaker in this satiric monologue written by pro-suffragist Marie Jenney Howe, back in 1912. “Woman suffrage is the reform against nature,” declares Howe’s unlikely, but irresistibly likeable, heroine. “Ladies, get what you want. Pound pillows. Make a scene. Make home a hell on earth—but do it in a womanly way! That is so much more dignified and refined than walking up to a ballot box and dropping in a piece of paper!”
Reviewers have called this production “wicked” in its wit, and have labeled Michèle LaRue’s performance "side-splitting."
LaRue is a professional actress who tours nationally with a repertoire of shows by turn-of-the-previous-century American writers.
A period satire written by pro-Suffragist Marie Jenney Howe and originally published in 1913, by the National American Woman Suffrage Association (precursor of the League of Women Voters). This production, produced by The East Lynne Company, premiered in March 1994, during New York City’s fourth-annual Womenkind Festival. Subsequent performance sites and presenters have included over 50 libraries, among them Chicago’s Newberry Library.
