| !, Spook Handy | Breaking New Ground - Tales from a Traveling Troubadour |
History, Music, Performing Arts- Other |
This is Spook's most popular program. Spook’s been to every American state except North Dakota, Hawaii, Michigan and Long Island (huh?). And he’s met all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds – some comical, some downright sad. In this humorous, heartwarming and inspiring concert Spook will share stories and songs about the places he’s been, people he’s met and the jobs and other predicaments he’s found himself in. An excellent program for Libraries, Arts Centers, Churches, Schools and other meeting places. Pete Seeger covers some of Spook's songs and the two perform together several times per year. Visit
www.spookhandy.com for more info on the artist and other programs and workshops.

| Walks, Russell | The Power of Pop Culture |
Literature- Other, Performing Arts- Storytelling, Visual Arts- Drawing |
In addition to being an artist and writer, I’m a teacher with a Masters Degree in Education. I’d love to visit your library this summer and spend some time talking with your kids about the importance of reading and about how a friendship with literature can help young adults achieve their dreams.
In 2006 and 2007, I was the artist responsible for the young adult side of the Collaborative Summer Library Program. During those two years, I spent some time traveling around the country giving a presentation I’ve developed based on my artwork, my love of reading, and Joseph Campbell’s philosophy about the persistence of myth and its importance in our lives.
I know that all sounds a little scholarly, but the presentation itself is entertaining as well as educational – I talk about Star Wars, and about how it changed my life. I explore the connection between stories as seemingly disparate as The Lion King and the Harry Potter saga, and I talk about how those stories apply to all of us.

| Pelham, Ruth | Meet the Artist! workshops and programs |
Literature- Authors, Music, Performing Arts- Other |
**Reduced fees available for multiple programs in one day or block booking with multiple libraries for the same day.**
When children want to know if being an artist is a 'real' way to earn a living, or what it feels like to perform in front of hundreds of people, or what singing songs has to do with making a difference in the world, Ruth Pelham’s responses always serve as an inspiration for children. During this song-filled workshop, Ruth draws from her work as a songwriter, performer, recording artist, public speaker, educator, community organizer, and arts manager and conveys the message that the job of being an artist requires being good at one’s art form as well as in all of the skills that we learn in school--writing, reading, math, communicating, negotiating, problem-solving, and many more. This workshop can be geared to topics such as career development, the arts, writing skills, music and performance, making life choices, and others.

| Whitcomb-May, Andrea | Dig It! A Greta Garbage Puppet Show |
Performing Arts- Puppetry, Performing Arts- Storytelling, Performing Arts- Theater |
Greta peeks beneath the surface of dirt and asks- what is dirt and how is it made? Is there “good” dirt and “bad” dirt?
Digging into nature’s recycling with worms, the puppets Jasmine & Tessy appear in a simple show about composting.
Tessy is shocked & grossed out by the idea of manure & worm poop. Jasmine & the audience do their best to soothe her fears & assure her that worms are busy beneath the surface making new dirt.
Worm poop, after all, makes the best soil.
Butterfly, ladybug, & worm puppets have guest appearances as they eat, poop, & wander through the flowers.
The audience gets to dig in at the finale when Greta opens her compost bin filled with real worms & shares the contents.
Hand washing instruction included!
Also starring Reduce, Reuse & Recycle.
