| McIntosh, Story Laurie | 2011 One World, Many Stories - Around the World... |
Multicultural- Other, Music, Performing Arts- Storytelling |
Once upon a time, a young fellow named Jack grew a cabbage so enormous, he decided to see if he could sail it across the open sea. He could! And so he did. . .And so begins “Around the World in An Afternoon”,
a musical storytelling adventure that will transport your library audience to lands both near and far. Within the frame story of Jack sailing on his cabbage (based on an old story dreamed up by Pete Seeger long ago), Story Laurie takes listeners on an imaginary journey that begins in your library’s backyard. The audience will sail south to the small island nation of Haiti, to hear a traditional folk tale. Then they will set sail across the Atlantic, where they will meet characters commonly found in European and African folklore. We then continue our journey around the globe, with a stop in Asia, then the South Seas and finally back home to the United States...singing songs, telling tales, off we go!

| !, Spook Handy | The Songs of Peter Paul and Mary |
History, Music, Performing Arts- Other |
There's a great picture of the Beatles back stage at the Ed Sullivan show in 1964 staring in awe at Peter Paul and Mary. The Beatles knew they were in the company of incredible and important musicians. This trio did more to make American folk music accessible to the masses than anyone else. People all over the world sang along to "Puff the Magic Dragon," "Leaving on a Jet Plane" and "Blowin in the Wind." And audience members can't help but sing along with Spook as he leads them through this heart-opening, educational, and voice-raising program! (Occasionally, Spook is joined by Paul Prestopino who toured with PPM for 15 years as a back up musician.) An excellent program for Libraries, Arts Centers, Churches, Schools and other meeting places.

| Torgan, Keith | My Story, My Song: a workshop in creativity through songwriting |
Music, Other, Performing Arts- Literary Artists |
Everybody loves songs but most people have never made one up themselves. Songwriting can be as natural as breathing … or humming – and since we all have plenty to say or should I say sing about this is a no-brainer! In this workshop we learn about the basics of song form and improvising melodies but more importantly we discover all kinds of exciting ways to access our creative impulses and turn them into song! Free-writing exercises, group collaborations, guided meditations and sensory exercises are all part of this inspiring and delightful workshop. Why is it called “My Story My Song?” – well – because it’s the stories – the ones that are central to our everyday existence that fuel the creative process and serve as the centerpiece to this inspiring experience in personal creativity.
