A CHRISTMAS CAROL is being offered as part of NSTG's SOLO CLASSICS Performance Series. America: Poets, Patriotism, Politics and Life What better way to celebrate our nation’s creativity than with an art song recital showcasing the talents of our composers and poets. Opening with Edward MacDowell’s beautiful “To a Wild Rose” the recital will features Aaron Copland’s commentary on politics and Gena Branscombe’s haunting World War I song, “Dear Lad O’Mine. Langston Hughes, one of our country’s great poets, collaborated with immigrant composer Jean Berger. Composer and poet never met in person yet via telephone they created a moving song cycle. Emily Dickinson’s poignant words are set to music by Aaron Copland and Martin Hennessy. The performers present four songs that sum up our life from childhood to becoming an adult. Concluding the program Leonard Bernstein’s “Take Care of this House” from his musical 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue leads to two tributes to our country as world leader and the beauty of our land.

The Marvelous Mutts library program is as exciting and entertaining as it is educational. Our program offers unique public programming that is valuable for community members of all ages. The Marvelous Mutts is a team of amazing canine athletes led by Kara Gilmore and Nadja Palenzuela. The Marvelous Mutts have wowed crowds throughout the US and South America, rising from humble beginnings to reach the pinnacle of canine athleticism. The team features national and world finalists in canine Frisbee©, agility and dock diving. The Marvelous Mutts’ library shows feature Frisbee©, trick and agility stunts that will keep all ages entertained. Woven throughout these performances are stories of rescue and redemption that teach humane treatment of animals and lessons on dog safety. Our shows feature hands-on participation with The Marvelous Mutts. People of all ages learn about basic pet care and about compassion for animals from our show. No matter how large or small your space may be, or the composition of your community, your patrons will love our show.

Greta peeks beneath the surface of dirt and asks- what is dirt and how is it made? Is there “good” dirt and “bad” dirt? Digging into nature’s recycling with worms, the puppets Jasmine & Tessy appear in a simple show about composting. Tessy is shocked & grossed out by the idea of manure & worm poop. Jasmine & the audience do their best to soothe her fears & assure her that worms are busy beneath the surface making new dirt. Worm poop, after all, makes the best soil. Butterfly, ladybug, & worm puppets have guest appearances as they eat, poop, & wander through the flowers. The audience gets to dig in at the finale when Greta opens her compost bin filled with real worms & shares the contents. Hand washing instruction included! Also starring Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. Puppet making workshops available.
