Performing Arts- Other
**Reduced fees available for multiple programs in one day or block booking with multiple libraries for the same day.** When children want to know if being an artist is a 'real' way to earn a living, or what it feels like to perform in front of hundreds of people, or what singing songs has to do with making a difference in the world, Ruth Pelham’s responses always serve as an inspiration for children. During this song-filled workshop, Ruth draws from her work as a songwriter, performer, recording artist, public speaker, educator, community organizer, and arts manager and conveys the message that the job of being an artist requires being good at one’s art form as well as in all of the skills that we learn in school--writing, reading, math, communicating, negotiating, problem-solving, and many more. This workshop can be geared to topics such as career development, the arts, writing skills, music and performance, making life choices, and others.

Kuhn, Lindsay Dancing With Horses Music,
Nature- Animals,
Performing Arts- Dance
This program is an introduction to the art of dressage, as performed by the Spanish Riding School and Lippizaner Stallions of Austria. Participants will learn dance moves that mimick the moves of the horses, and can practice them in a simulated dressage arena with stick horses. They will learn moves such as the side pass, pirouette, flying changes, piaffe and passage. The history of the art will be taught using Margeurite Henry's book: The White Stallion of Lippiza. Students will be allowed to perform a KUR using classical music at the end of the program. Traveling along is Lilly, our miniature horse whom the children can meet and pet as the program finale. Dressage is the art of teaching horses to dance in harmony with themselves. It was originally developed by the Greek General Xenophon, as a means to train horses for war. Today it is performed both as an Olympic sport in the summer games and by those who wish to train their horses in the higher arts. The class will be conducted as a ballet class in a flat open area of the library. This program is suitable for the 2013 summer reading program.

Booking, Unbound Marc Black - American Children Music,
Other
I’ve developed a program that’s perfect for kids and grownups alike. I began developing it when my kids were very young. I had the idea to create a CD that featured lots of the great musicians singing songs their parents had sung to them, or that they sang to their kids. And, some cases, wrote for their kids. The resulting CD, American Children, was honored as the ‘American Library Association’s Best Children’s CD of the year.’ The CD featured performances by Richie Havens, Taj Mahal, John Sebastian, Peter Schickele (PDQ Bach), Maria Muldaur and many more. The stuff I write about in this genre ranges from a tune about Ziggy, my wacky wire haired fox terrier, to my love of coffee and baseball, and the importance of picking up litter. I also mix in songs from my childhood (in the sixties) for a program the family can all enjoy. In addition, I’m also available for expressive songwriting classes with kids of all ages. I love doing this!
