Wondergy Science Wonder + Energy = Learning for Fun Wondergy is a team of scientists who love to play. Everything is unscripted and driven by audience participation. You might even call it science improvisation. But be careful what you wish for, because Wondergy’s scientists may set themselves ablaze, blow stuff up, or send athletes flying over your audience at your request! From world-champion Skateboarders to Laser Shows or Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream, Wondergy brings awesome stuff, and explores the science that makes it work Family-friendly and adaptable, Wondergy events are great for kids, teens, and adults. Wondergy programs typically run between 60 and 90 minutes, and are great for special occasions, pre-school & school programs, summer camps, collegiate events, corporate functions, meetings and keynotes, and more! Wondergy can work with you to create custom programming adapted to your community, your curriculum, your market, and your goals!

What do ladybeetle larvae eat? What is an ootheca? Can you spot a walking stick? Do you have orange dogs in your backyard? What do bugs do to help our environment and keep us comfortable, even make food for us? What do insects and mushrooms have in common? Find out the answers and more during this program designed to get kids outdoors and exploring their environment. Kids get to interact with real live insects from New England, and learn about every stage of their lifecycle. The library may keep a terrarium with eggs to watch go through the life cycle to encourage patrons to return for observation. Laura Ingalls Day is a compilation of programs normally taught in a 1 hour block, designed for a kickoff or finale to summer reading, or an event that will bring in patrons during the winter. Starting with sugaring off, we will make sugar on snow, then move onto fresh butter, cheese, and sourdough bread. Next we will plant a garden on the library grounds or start transplants for growing on the windowsill. We can wash up with home made old fashioned lye soap, and hand dip candles. Wrap it all up by meeting farm animals and learning to care for them just like Laura and Mary. Based on book: Little House in the Big Woods, by Laura Ingalls Wilder, this program can incorporate reading the book and eating between stations. The program can last 4-8 hours, depending on age group and individual or combinations of stations. Wild weaving encourages free expression, experimentation and joyous abandon in your weaving. The results are creative and exciting when one forgoes the emphasis on strict technique (although basic weaving and fiber techniques will be taught. Driftwood, shells, natural yarns and beach finds will interweave to create a unique piece of art! Beautiful visuals and mood music will make for a serene atmosphere. Your wild weaving will emerge like a walk on the beach as you discover and enjoy different treasures! Finishing techniques will make your piece ready to frame or display as is.

Make a Splash..Read! program is a 45 minute interactive exploration of the Wonders of Water, Ocean Fun, Fresh Water and Beach Life using songs, story songs and some creative movement. One of Andy's most requested songs, Funky ABC's will be sung and every letter of the alphabet at the audiences suggestion will be water related. To keep traditional music alive and well the old favorite, Down the Bay will be in the repertoire, asking audiences for rhyming suggestions. Children will also have a chance to move like water creatures during a few songs. Much more fun is planned. Audience participation is always encouraged.

A simply spectacular collection of rainforest butterflies and moths, many collected by the presenter, will provide a glimpse of the stunning beauty and infinite variety of tropical rainforest life, tropical rainforest climate & geography, and biological concepts relating to these rainforest creatures are covered. A few rainforest photos are shown and actual rainforest experiences are related. Presenter to audience and audience to presenter questions throughout the program. Presenter has explored the world's tropical rainforests for approximately 1,000 days: Australia, Borneo, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guyana, Malay Peninsula, New Guinea, Peru, Sulawesi and Venezuela; and led a half dozen major scientific expeditions for the Smithsonian and Field Museums.

Welcome to the world of horses! Children and adults alike are fascinated by these majestic creatures, and the experiences with them can be magical! Spending time around horses and ponies has been proven in many studies to be therapeutic on many levels both physically and emotionally. The bond can be quite powerful and healing, but where to start? It is important to know the nature of a horse, how to properly handle them on the ground as well as while riding. Proper care and feeding, tack fitting, and maintenance will be discussed as well. This is all taught out of the American Association for Horsemanship Safety manual by Jan Dawson. Katie, our real life miniature horse will be available to be pet, groomed, and for demonstration of safety techniques. Learn how to tap maple trees properly, different methods with pros and cons. How to store and process sap, measure brix, and grade maple products. Science of sugar discussed, with chemistry. Best of all, live demonstration with partially boiled sap to reduce waiting time, kids can watch syrup finish and taste when cool as sugar on snow. May be done any time of year, ice shavings can substitute for snow in summer.
