Songs from the 19th and 20th centuries, describing the construction, operation, and history of America's railroads. Main repertoire source: N. Cohen, The Long Steel Rail, U.of Chicago Press, 1982. Examples: Drill Ye Tarriers, John Henry, Wabash Cannonball, Casey Jones, Wreck of the Old 97, Paddy Works on the Railway, Life's Railway to Heaven, etc. Accompaniment on acoustic stringed instruments (guitar, banjo, Autoharp, etc.). History and background is given for all songs. A program of railroad songs is presented annually for the Brighton schools; this program has recently been performed at the Strong Museum (Rochester), Heritage Square Museum (Ontario), NOMAD folk Festival (New Haven CT). Performed at Cottrell Mem. Library in Atlanta NY, 2011. Many opportunities for audience participation (chorus singing).

My Favorite Things, Manhattan, My Funny Valentine, are a few of the songs Sonny & Perley highlight in this concert. Julie Andews put it best " All Rodgers' songs, with the wonders of lyrics woven into them, around them, through them, hit you somewhere in the solar plexus..."

Spook has had the privilege to perform alongside Pete several times per year at concerts and festivals since the two met in 2003. Along the way, Spook has learned a lot of Pete's favorite songs and the stories behind them. He's even contributed verses to one of Pete's newer songs and sang on his latest CD.
Pete Seeger will turn 94 on May 3, 2013. This program looks at the legacy, struggles, songs and stories of one of Americas most beloved folk singers - the man who gave us If I Had a Hammer, Turn, Turn, Turn, and Waist Deep in the Big Muddy.
