We're buggin' out over books this summer with songs and stories from around the world to bring lots of critters out of the woods, out of the books, and into our libraries! Snakes and frogs and spiders and worms join us for sing-alongs and activity songs. We'll have story visits with Anansi the Spider and the Wide Mouthed Frog as well as tunes about the good creepy crawlies in our gardens. And let's not forget figuring out who eats what!

Aunt Helen’s Closet is a performance based on a real woman from 1909. Helen Fitzgerald embarked on adventures, collected artifacts, and changed history from the 1930’s to the 1990’s. In the performance, audience members are actively engaged by donning Aunt Helen's authentic clothing and jewelry. The chronicle of her incredible journey is Aunt Helen’s Closet, A Museum Approach To Education.

THE LAZY FOX/EL ZORRO PEREZOSO Can a very lazy Fox trick an Armadillo? Perhaps...but in this Spring Valley Puppet Theater production of the Argentine folktale, The Lazy Fox, the Armadillo has a few tricks up HIS sleeve! This program features enchanting hand puppet animals and a large rod puppet Sun. This production is also available in a bilingual version: El Zorro Perezoso. THE WOLF IN SHEEP'S CLOTHING A hungry Wolf tries to outwit the savvy Shepherd and make a meal of the helpless, little Lamb. Helpless? Maybe not! Adapted from the Aesop Fable, this popular story is enlivened with a colorful Mexican setting, a humorous communication gap and a surprise ending!

McKeon-Pierce, Lonna Remembering Anna Marlak: A Trunk Show on Immigration History,

This one-woman show uses artifacts from Mrs. Pierce's grandmother, as she re-tells her immigrant journey all alone, through Ellis Island, to Binghamton, NY, in 1907. This makes the ordeal understandable, powerful,and personal. The storyteller draws each item from the trunk, including photographs, costumes, and small treasures from the Russian and Armenian cultures. The trunk is the very same used by Mr. Pierce's grandmother, who escaped the Armenian Genocide in the early 1900's. Audience members are encouraged to preserve oral histories and artifacts of their ancestors to help understand themselves better; and realize what gifts and curses run through their family history.

Open Hand Theater creates original performances based on the performance traditions of cultures around the world. Grandfather Frost weaves his magic through the Russian forest in a tale spun by Baba Yaga and her mischievous cat. Featuring Vladimir Vasyagin, our international artist in residence from Tomsk, Siberia, this traditional story introduces Russian heritage through its folk characters, music and unique style of puppetry.
