Lupinology is hosted by our friendly talking wolf, Howler, and teaches audiences about life as a wolf, the wolf pack, the language of wolves, where wolves fit in within their ecosystem, and how they hunt. This is a highly interactive program that also involves a team building activity.

Summer Escapades celebrates family fun with participatory stories chosen from Diane's best-loved family tales. Original fables, folktales and songs give us a look at exiting summertime adventures including the aquatic antics of a curious monkey who goes for a wild ride on the back of a shark! Summer Escapades is also available with Celtic harp accompaniment by Margot Chamberlain. Either way it's the perfect summertime treat.

With programs specially designed for libraries, Nan incorporates songs that have been made into books (books that sing), songs made from books, songs based on folk tales and stories, and songs that celebrate reading. Within that framework she offers presentations that focus on several different themes such as reading (SING A STORY-READ A SONG!), folk music (MORE THAN A SONG!), history (SINGING OUR HISTORY), and nature and the environment (SONGS FOR A LIVABLE LAND). Using folk and acoustic music and a variety of songs and instruments, Nan offers presentations that are fun and informative, and encourages audience participation.

Carrier oils are used to dilute essential oils before they are applied to the skin in massage and aromatherapy. They are so named because they carry the essential oil onto the skin. Learn about the importance of using carrier oils and some of the most popular and easily accessible carrier oils you can use. My program of seven stories from cultures around the world answers some humankind's questions of just what is that up there? This program works in concert with the 2019 Summer Reading Theme A Universe of Stories Tales include: Coyote and the Stars (Navajo); Sun and Moon (Ibibio/Africa); Saving the Moon (Mexico).

The Native Americans used a hunter-gatherer model for centuries before agriculture was brought to their land. They knew how to find and prepare many foods from the wild, foods that still exist and are readily available today. Would you survive a natural disaster, war, or zombie apocalypse? This program will show you the plants that are in your own backyard that you can survive on, even in winter. Patrons will handle real native plants and learn when, where, and how to locate them. They will be able to taste wild foods during and after the program. Based on Euell Gibbons book “Stalking the Wild Asparagus. Discover the treasure of music with a musical scavenger hunt. Listen for names of animals, places, and more in these fun and interactive songs, and color a treasure map filled with pictures of these clues. This program has been specially designed for the 2006 Summer Reading Program. The program can be adapted for older or younger children and will include a song written for this year’s theme.

Japanese Arts Center, Ryu Shu Kan Ikebana - Japanese Flower Arranging Life Skills- Other,

Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. It is more than simply putting flowers in a container. It is a disciplined art form in which the arrangement is a living thing where nature and humanity are brought together. It is steeped in the philosophy of developing closeness with nature. Join Hiroko & Gerard Senese, from the Japan Center at Stony Brook University for a demonstration of the different styles of Japanese flower arrangements. Hiroko Uraga-Senese studied Ikebana in Osaka, Japan in the prestigious Misho-Ryu style of Ikebana, which was established over 200 years ago. She received her Shihan-Teacher's License in 1980 and has been introducing Ikebana to the Long Island community since 1998. Learn about the history, concepts, principles and aesthetics behind each arrangement, and the relationship of the flowers to each particular vase being used.
