Traditional American Folk songs and tunes tracing sections of American history with the use of a U.S. map. I will show the Old Chisolm Trail (The Lonesome Cowboy) and Oregon Trail (Sweet Betsy From Pike), the path of the Underground Railroad (Follow the Drinking Gourd), the Erie Canal and others. There will be opportunites for singing along and creative movement. Instruments will include mandolin, guitar, vocals and traditional American instruments mountain dulcimer, limberjack, and banjo. There will also be a crankie - a traditional American folk art form from the Appalachian Mountains. I will also explain the importance of folk music throughout history. This can be presented with a power point presentaion.

Ruch, Dave Just for Fun! Music
Dave brings along his banjo, bones, spoons, washboard, guitar, jaw harp and more for a special program full of musical fun for all ages. Audience members will delight in seeing and learning a bit about these instruments up close while enjoying some great participatory songs performed on each. Expect singalongs, movement songs, laughter, guessing games, even a few cartoon themes.....some audience members may even be invited to come up on "stage" and join in the fun! Since our founding in 1998, Eight Strings & a Whistle has established itself as an innovative and exciting ensemble, with each of us drawing on our individual artistry to create our unique collective voice. We perform rare treasures of the Baroque, Classical and 20th and 21st century originally composed for flute, viola and cello, as well as commissioned works. We are committed to presenting both traditional and contemporary original works and pride ourselves on the success of our diverse programming. We discuss the pieces we are performing from the stage in an audience-friendly manner. These “live program notes” put older works in historic context and give insight into the contemporary works and premieres. We are able to engage our audiences and provide them with an enriched experience. Eight Strings & a Whistle welcomes the opportunity to perform for your community, school, or concert series.

FARMER TOM has brought reading excitement to student with assemblies for schools, PARP and libraries for over 25 years! Within his unique and engaging program, involving Action and Silly Songs, Storytelling, Movement, Laughter, Learning, Sing-a-long, Props, Audience Participation and Hand Clapping, Farmer Tom Walsh inspires the students to pick up a book or use the internet(with guidance) and see how enriching, educating and entertaining reading can be! Farmer Tom Walsh educates by bringing a understanding of farm culture, safety, farm animals, history of farming, the first green industry, recycling, science, nutritional value of fresh vegetables, cooperation, working together and the fun of physical activities through music and songs from down on the farm. We really get moving!

Married French artists, Robert and Sonia Delaunay were pioneers of abstraction. Their works are vibrant, colorful, full of movement and engaging to all ages. Using watercolor, visual references and easy artist tools, you will learn how to reduce a landscape image to basic shapes and line to create a lyrical painting in their style. Beautiful music will relax and inspire fluidity, boldness and movement in your work.

Killion, Paul Kids' Music Music
Paul sings kids’ favorites accompanying himself on guitar and harmonica. The program is aimed at youngsters from pre-K through the lower grades. The younger set will enjoy songs like “Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Wheels on the Bus” while slightly older listeners will appreciate colorful songs like “Over the Rainbow” and “Beyond the Sea”. Paul happily interacts with his young audiences and singing along is always welcomed! And a patriotic song or two are usually included for kids of all ages!

Ruch, Dave The War of 1812! - Songs and Stories from NY and Beyond History,

In this lecture/concert, popular performer Dave Ruch (www.daveruch.com) presents a fascinating portrait of the War of 1812 through the songs and stories of the people themselves. Ruch has dug deeply into archival recordings, diaries, old newspapers and other historical manuscripts to unearth a wealth of rarely-heard music which, alongside some of the classics from the war, offers a rounded and fascinating picture of this “second war of independence.” Special emphasis is given to New York State’s important role in the conflict.

The Flint Hill Folk have been staff musicians at the Genesee Country Village restoration in Mumford NY for over 30 years. The group includes up to eight members, performing on fiddle, guitar, banjo, hammered dulcimer, mandolin, concertina, and vocals. Performances are in 19th-century costume, and feature restored period instruments. Repertoire includes folk and popular songs of the 19th century/Civil War era, with emphasis on New York composers, and regional themes such as the Erie Canal, Civil War, women's suffrage, The group can perform in numbers from three to six, depending on individual requirements. A subset of the Flint Hill Folk can provide period dance calling and instrumentation. In addition to regular work at Genesee Country Village, group has performed at the Museum of Trades & Industry (Seneca Falls), Brighton Town Concert Series, Salt Museum (Sytacuse), Hamlin Beach State Park, 'Battle of Lain's Mill' Civil War re-enactment (Canisteo), Granger Homestead (Canandaigua), Geneseo Summer Concert Series, many other venues.

Let's join the BenAnna Band in live interactive personalized group music experience! The BenAnna Band provides a high energy interactive musical experience by involving the audience in free dance, organized dancing, group singing & playing various musical instruments. The BenAnna Band utilizes guitar, voice & tambourine to create a full sound but also not over stimulating for other students with various needs. Songs included are Disney classics, familiar pop/rock songs, movement songs with grounding concepts along with original songs created by the band. The program can be adjusted based on the age of the audience & will be engaging for the whole family. We pride ourselves on providing the most engaging music for people of all abilities or needs.

Bromka, Sondra & John 'The Tale of Yanek & Heliotrope' - A Medieval Music & Storytelling Journey History,

Audiences are instantly engaged when a Medieval merchant's cart overflowing with mysterious and intriguing musical instruments arrives. Master Craftsman Yanek is en route to the greatest trading faire in all of France. His path crosses that of Lady Heliotrope, an exuberant troubaritz (female troubadour) in search of poetic inspiration. From here the fairytale spins as their tales entwine in this authentic period storytelling production that will absolutely delight audiences of all ages. Sondra and John Bromka infuse the performance with historic music on a great variety of unusual medieval instruments-many actually built by John, an accomplished luthier in real life. An authentic and appealing program!
