Tales of the Supernatural For adults, not appropriate for ages 11 and under. Just in time for Halloween, Diane presents an unusual collection of eerie tales and songs. Definitely not for kids, this evening event features a true ghost story Edgecomb collected about the misshapen standing stones of Avebury, England and the eerie force that emanates from them. The performance has a decidedly Celtic slant exploring the Gaelic traditions that influence Halloween including the humorous encounter with the devil that brought about the first Jack O’Lantern

She also answers questions about the research and writing process for her book about hamsters and a horse guide for Barnes and Noble that she and her daughter, Elise, co-authored. Library receives personalized, signed copy of her book for its collection.

A solo puppeteer/storyteller explores the fantasy world of one of Victorian England’s best-known authors and illustrators. Set in an old-fashioned nursery, this performance includes three favorite Beatrix Potter stories as seen through the eyes of a young English girl growing up at the beginning of the twentieth century. As she pursues the everyday activities of playing and learning, the tales of “Two Bad Mice,” “Jeremy Fisher,” and “Jemima Puddleduck” seem to grow from her imagination. This 45 minute show incorporates hand, rod, and shadow puppets with storytelling and song in a style that is sure to please young and old alike. Licensed by Frederick Warne & Co.

When Henry's cousin Annie comes for a visit, Mudge is so charmed by her that he finally rolls over at her command! Henry thinks Mudge must love Annie more than him, because the dog only does the trick for her. Very upset, Henry runs away into the cold dark woods to find adventures on his own. Will the two friends be reunited? Find out in this Theatreworks musical, based on the best-selling series of books by Cynthia Rylant.

The writing and art process in the making of a children's picture book from a beginning idea to the final bound book. Support materials demonstrate the stages: press sheets, sew a book dummy, original art, paints, brushes, galleys, manuscripts with the editor's comments to show the re-writing process. I can also middle-grade and young adult novels besides doing art and writing for the elementary grade level. So i feel comfortable speaking to groups of all different ages.

WRITING WORKSHOPS Encourage writing competence and confidence with Ms. Feldman's dynamic, motivational workshops. Using her expertise as an acclaimed author and Harvard trained educator, Ms. Feldman creates lively custom designed workshops to decrease the fear and increase the fun of writing. Skills, tips, techniques and practice enhance research directed non-fiction writing and/or creative writing. Topics covered may include taking reliable notes; creating compelling beginnings, self-editing, showing vs. telling; the power of description; choosing effective words; understanding point of view; developing strong characters, etc. Sessions are adjusted for age level. Humorous punctuation and spelling exercises are also available. Ms. Feldman has added interactive workshops based on her recently released book BILLY & MILLY, SHORT & SILLY, a well-received (starred reviews) and humorous introduction to storytelling.

With her keen sense of dialog, Pamela inhabits characters from many parts of the world. Students travel from one country to another, discovering how traditional folk tales connect us all. Favorites include The Magic Orange Tree and other Haitian tales, Anansi stories (including African, Jamaican and North American versions), native American tales, and extraordinary selections from Europe and Asia.

"Were They Equal?" is a delightful story from Africa, about Tortoise, Elephant, Hippo, & You! Arnold Perey, anthropologist, in this illustrated children's book, has retold the story for children today, and illustrated it with lively pictures. He is joined by flutist Barbara Allen, and actor Anne Fielding in the telling of the story. You'll hear about Tortoise, who is small. The big animals, Elephant and Hippo, feel important because they think they are better than Tortoise. But Tortoise plays an amazing trick on them which helps them see the truth: "We are different, but our feelings inside are the same. I deserve the same respect that you do."

Siy, Alexandra Author Visit: GET STEAM! Literature- Creative Writing,

GET STEAM! explores the links between STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) while presenting the process by which I create children's books--including research, photography, and writing. Using images from my books, BUG SHOTS, MOSQUITO BITE, and SNEEZE!, I introduce students to hidden worlds magnified and photographed by an electron microscope. In depth observation of a variety of specimens is accomplished with a 5X jeweler's loupe provided to each workshop participant. Students explore how they can use observation to to inspire their own creative-nonfiction writing.
